I was all ready to order the chicco keyfit until Jools mentioned it was pretty heavy. I am a short mama (5 2") and I have a bad back. Is the chicco that much heavier than say the Snugride 2? Is there one that is significantly lighter all around but is still safe?
I don't think we'll use it as a "bucket" all that often since I can't see myself toting a bucket and a toddler who runs off as soon as I let go of his hand, so she'll probably end up being worn a lot anyway. So would it really matter?

I'm just rambling now. I need a carseat pronto and I'm totally stressing over it!

Of course, they all weigh a ton with a baby in them, lol... seriously, I think the Key Fit is about 10 pounds, the SR2 is like 9 (it gained a little weight with the gracopedic foam and the extra seat shell...it might stil be more like 8.5?), and my Combi Connection probably doesn't top 8 (I just went and lifted it, it's definitely less than a gallon of milk!), and is very compact (compared to the enormous Britax Companion I have next to it...which is more *bulky* than the Key Fit or Connection, anyway.

Wow, 9 weeks to go...gosh, I'm due 2/4 and that sounds about the same (of course, the car seats and the co-sleeper are ALL I have so far...boy, I'd better get shopping!)

So out of the ones you mentioned, which would you recommend for someone like me?

Weeeeelll...I just ordered my Key Fit through www.couponsurfers.com (one step ahead is the store from that site) and used code 'amerbaby' and even with shipping, the total cost was $107...for that price, I think I'll be able to tolerate the extra pound or two of weight :D.

But the Connection is really quite light (I DID try a friend's baby in mine, and he was ougrowing the Snugride, the small one, and was outgrowing the Connection at the same time, even though he was under 22 pounds, he was too tall for it... seems like there are possible tradeoffs if you go with a seat that is really *too* light, if that makes sense?).

I'm getting a friend's impromptu review of the Combi Centre right now, I'll post any observations he has...

It has more features (the new Centre) and seems 'a hair heavier' than the Connection...so maybe like 8.5 pounds?

It has a plastic puzzle buckle that he says is a little hard to do with gloves on, for what it's worth (plastic is ok, in an RF seat, I promise)

The newer Graco Snug Rides are 7 pounds. I have one and the infant seat itself is light! Too bad my DS hates it, lol.

Oh cool, I'll flip that away in my brain file :)
