I have never heard it pronounced and I always thought of it as "bri" as in British and then "tex". A guy on TV from a local babyproofing company was doing a segment on the Sunshine Kids Radian and saying it was the safest car seat available. He compared it to a Britax Marathon and pronounce it like the "bri" in bride, "br-eye-tax". Which is right?

I always thought it was pronounced with a short 'i' but wasn't sure, so I called them one day and the recording on the auto-attendant said "thank you for calling Bry-tex" I was surprised to hear the "tex" at the end, but I called back and listened again. Not Bry-tax, but Bry-tex.

Maybe it's because she's in North Carolina and sporting a bit of a southern drawl. ;)

But definitely the Brigh-t part is how it is (it's funniest to hear British people mispronounce it... Bree-tax is a good one).

So...who pronounces Graco as Gracko? I hear that a lot....

I had thought the same, but this discussion came up a while back on ivillage and the English mums said, it was supposed to be "Brigh-tax" even in England.

Yep, as a Brit I can assure you it is definitely Brigh-tax. But you are right, there are many of my fellow countrymen and women that pronouce it incorrectly as Bree-tax.

Yes, Julie - please tell me how to pronounce Graco! I've always wondered but never known, so end up saying it fast and under my breath so nobody can tell if its right or wrong. :) Gray-ko? Grah-ko? something else?

Well, I have a few other choice words for Graco of my own ... but whenever I have called them they all have said ... "gray-ko" :)

Interesting topic. I guess I'm like the Brits as I've always called it "Bree-tax" for some reason. Never really thought about it. Now I'm enlightened! :)

But wouldn't you think, since they are British, and it is spelled "Britax" that just logically, it would sound like the word it is similar to? It just doesn't make sense to pronounce it Brightax. (And WHERE in the heck would "breetax" come from!) But then again, there's a lot in the English language that makes no sense! LOL
