Will new snugride fit old base?

We are having baby number 2 and discovered our 2004 snugride is dirty and moldy. Will the new snugrides fit the old bases? We have 3 bases for me, Dh and granny.

I believe the snugride 2 will fit into the same base. The safeseat i do not think will fit since the base is a different design and shape.

Also the snugrides do not need to be used with a base so you do not need to have extra bases for the seat to be used in multiple cars

www.gracobaby.com onthe FAQ's still said they were all compatible last I checked. The only caveat is that the new Snugrides go to 22 pounds, and the old bases are only rated to 20, so you might not want to use the base over 20 pounds (I'm sure it wouldn't fail, or they'd have a massive, massive recall and warning about the issue, but it's something to be wary about when baby starts pushing the limits)
