Trying to decide between DC and MA for tall 16 month old and newborn. Is the farthest point for the crotch strap on the DC farther out than the MA? Is an MA good for a newborn even though it doesn't have the instert the DC has? Baby #2 will be in SnugRide until he/she reaches limits (which didn't take DD that long). I'd love to save a little money since I have to buy two seats but want to make the right decision in the long run.

Bump. Sorry to be a pain but I don't have the opportunity to compare the seats IRL.

On the crotch strap - it is, but I don't have both to measure IRL. Here is an old post about the crotch depth that shows the DC has 1.5 in more room:

The MA is good for a newborn, but the DC or BV with the insert will get a snugger/cushier fit. If you wait until the SnugRide is outgrown the difference will be minor.

I don't know anything about the DC, but I put my son in an MA when he was 4.5 months and outgrew his infant seat by height. He was 16 pounds I think. I didn't have any reservations, and probably would have done it sooner if it hadn't been so darn cold (and therefore convenient to use the carrier). The DC wasn't available when I bought the MA, but I'm fairly sure I'd have still bought the MA and saved a little money. ;)
