Touriva and the darn LATCH connectors

We have a Touriva in DH's car (MA in mine). It is installed with the belt as his car doesn't have LATCH. So we wrapped up the LATCH strap on the seat for storage as suggested in the manual.

Problem? The splitter plate keeps getting stuck on it when we try to tighten the harness! A total PITA!!

Can I just take the whole LATCH strap off?

It's like those tags on a mattress...'do not remove under penalty of law!' (unless you're the owner and it's your seat, then you can do what you want, lol).
*I'd* take them off my seat, if it were ME :)
