View Full Version : Help!! Car seat straps are rubbing my baby's neck raw!

Today especially we had several errands to run and each time I took her out, her neck was all red on one side from the car seat strap digging into her neck. They began to fade just as I'd need to put her back in the car, where she screamed the whole ride (not like her - she usually falls asleep or rides quietly). What can I do?? She's in a Graco Snugride 5pt harness. Should I lower the chest clip a bit to widen the straps? Is that safe? We have the MA ordered - should be here Friday and if it will eliminate the problem I'll switch to the MA right away instead of waiting to outgrow the SR. But we still have this week that I need a solution for! I know I can't use aftermarket strap covers. I think the problem is showing up now because it's spring weather and she's wearing lightweight clothing - no more turtleneck/jackets to cover her lower neck. Please help - her neck is so red and starting to look raw :( :(

Until the MA gets here, either dress her in tees that you can pull up over her neck a bit or take the straps out and put some baby socks with the toes cut out onto the strap. Or, if she won't mess with it, I used some of those tiny little baby washcloths that I had a million of. Just tuck it towards her neck if she won't grab them away.

You can purchase strap covers made by Graco that are okay to use with your SR since they have been crash-tested with them. Near me, I can only find Graco carseat accessories at Burlington Coat Factory.

The MA should eliminate the problem then? Thanks, I will try your suggestions! She is getting really squirmy but we'll do our best :)
