My DD1 is 38 months, maybe 31 lbs, 33 inches. DD2 just turned 12 months today! She is just over 17 lbs. They're both skinny and average height. I'm preparing for when DD2 is ready for a forward facing seat, and looking into options. Do I get two more Marathons for DD2 (we already have two for DD1)? Do I buy one of the convertable seats for DD1 and place DD2 in the Marathons I already have? If so which convertable? I was considering getting new Roundabouts, but now the Roundabouts are the same price as the Marathons...

Both girls drive in both my Saturn VUE and DH's Saturn SL1 frequently, so ALL the seats have to be very safe and comfortable! Money is always the kicker isn't it? I will spend what I have to to keep them safe, but any suggestions would be VERY helpful!

Just for clarity's sake, I think you mean 'combo' or 'harnessed booster'... convertibles are the ones that go from rearfacing to forward facing, like the Marathon or Roundabout.
I'd probably just get 2 more Marathons, since your older dd can fit in hers for a couple-three more years anyway, why boot her out of her seat early? Heck, she's small enough to rearface, you could have them both rearfacing for quite a long time (see the link in my sig... rearfacing is so safe, we all should be :)).

The Recaro Young Sport is a nice seat, so is anything by Evenflo, and the Graco Cargos are terrific, the Cosco Apex is great, and this new Safeguard Go looks totally cool http://www.safeguardseat.com/go/why.htm
