I brought the Britax Laptop over to my moms garage over the weekend to see how it fits into a 1958 Chevy! The laptop is missing the manual but i can "see" how it's supposed to work. The problem is that the male part of the seatbelt is too long therefore there's too much play in the seat...way too much!

Anyone have any suggestions? Or maybe i should sell it since it doesn't appear to be working? Or anyone have pics of a laptop in use?

Thanks!!!

I would say it will not work, you want the same fit as you would installing a car seat pretty much it shouldn't move less than an inch. Obviously not squishing your child :)

I can't remember the details, why can't he just use a harnessed seat?

Are you sure you mean the MALE end of the belt is too long--not the female end?

How does the male side adjust tighter over a person?

I've got pics of the Laptop in use, but I'd like a little more info on the belt first.

Yeah, I think the female end (buckle) is too long and won't fit into the belt groove on the laptop, right? If the buckle side is REALLY long you can use a belt shortening clip, and if it's only kind of long, you can twist it down a few times to shorten it...but I'm thinking you need to have someone do a little shopping and buy a newer seatbelt for that car that will work (they had to add the one that's there, so it should be easier than tracking down a belt shortening clip and learning how to install it properly, trust me).

To the PP... he's over 40 pounds, a regular seat won't work any more :(

He's actually about 34 lbs but is over the tops slots of the Comfortsport we had in that car. I still have an RA that looks like he's got a teeny tiny amount of room left; i can use that until i figure something out.

I believe my blvd. specifically states it has to be used w/ a 3 point belt? And of course this car doesn't have headrests....he's in the car about 1-2 times per week in the summer so i want him as secure as possible.

I know my mom is taking the car to a local restoration shop for some work shortly; i'll suggest a newer/shorter belt be installed then!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

A boulevard can be used with a lapbelt only just fine. No need for the three point belt. Especially if you have them install top tethers in the car (if possible).
If you have a BV already, I would use that.

I don't think top tethers are an option, though I suppose I could contact GM!

What year was it made? I know that most cars can have them added if they are post 1989 (or near there) but I am not sure about pickup trucks. Julie will know ;)

1958!

The seat belts are circa 1970's. They are both outboard; actually i don't know that the rear seat would even 3 people; 3 fit much better in the front on the bench seat.

We were in the car tonight; DS was in his RA. There's a bit of room w/ the shell/head height and the straps - just a bit though. It's a rocksolid install and takes me usually 5-10 minutes to UNINSTALL the seat!
