View Full Version : Still confused by what to replace my Touriva with

So, I think my options are:
Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe for $170 - goes to 55 lbs
Britax Marathon for $220 - goes to 65 lbs
Britax Boulevard for $240 - has SIP and goes to 65 lbs
Britax Regent for $240 - goes to 80 lbs

DS is outgrowing the Touriva by height (has about .25" left) but has a ton of room in the Wizard left. He's FF in DH's car, so I'm pretty sure the Marathon doesn't get us much over the FP version. If he ends up outboard instead of center, the Boulevard would be preffered. I can't imagine he needs the Regent, since he's only about 31 lbs and even a 55 lbs limit should last him a long, long time.

So, I'm leaning towards either the FP or the Boulevard. It's a $70 difference (prices on Albee Baby). Is it worth it?

Thanks

ETA: Are any of these better than others once I can't use the top tether any more? It's in a Saturn, which apparently has a 40lb tether limit.

Not to confuse you even more but what about the Recaro Young Sport. Harness slots a little higher than the MA. It harnesses to 40 lbs and then becomes a great booster with SIP. Since your son is only about 31 lbs this might be a good seat for you. If you have thought of this seat but do not want it for whatever reason ignore this paragraph.

I would get the BV over the FP if you could afford it. I do not think someone can say if SIP is "worth it", then you get into the question of how much your child's life is "worth" etc.

Your saturn has a 40 lb Top tether limit or lower LATCH 40 lb limit?

I haven't looked into that one. I will. I do want him harnessed as long as possible. I really think he'd weigh closer to 33-34 lbs if he hadn't had 2 good sickness in 6 weeks. Both times he lost 1-2 lbs. I don't know if he'll catch himself up or not.

Our Saturn only has tethers, no lower anchors. According to: http://www.saferidenews.com/pdfs/LATCHApp_B_pg105.pdf, the limit for the tethers when used with seatbelts is 40lbs. Unless I'm misunderstanding the table.

it's still better to go ahead and tether the Regent, regardless of the limit.... it's the lesser of evils... and Britax thorougly tests their seats, so they wouldn't tell us to tether where it would be dangerous.

I would go with the Boulevard for now, at least.
