About 2 weeks ago there was a discussion on my local mom's club message group about car seats (one of the moms wanted a rec for a booster for her 20 month old! yikes!). I posted a bunch of info about carseat safety, extended rearfacing, yada yada yada.... I'm sure I ruffled a few feathers because a few of the moms wrote that their babes were so much happier FF and they didn't care...whatever! We have a rather large moms club and I don't know many of the moms in it since we do a lot of activities by age group. Anyhow, got an email tonight from one of the moms...

"Thanks for the info on rear facing. I'm going to turn Gabby's seat rear facing tonight. Had just turned her forward a few weeks ago, but the info and videos on that website was very persuasive."

Made my day! I just feel so good about this, I had to post here becuase I knew ya'll would understand! Thanks for letting me brag (although kudos to you all really, this is where I get all my info!).

Woo-hoo! Way to go, Allison! :) I always get so excited when we win another one over to the "dark side" of extended RF. Lol. That was great of you to give all the moms all of that food for thought. You never know who you might have influenced by posting that, someone who may have changed their ways, but just didn't post about it.

that's fabulous... even if you can only change the mind of one mom, that's one more baby that won't be ffing.

Way to go! The videos are extremely persuasive, IMO. My DH was all about switching the seat to ff until I sent him the links.

Just a quick brag about my Pede since we are on the subject, actually one of the Nurse Practicitioners, but I am sure the whole office is this way. When we took DD in for her 15 month a couple weeks ago the NP said "she's still rf, oh no, she's old enough so she's ff?"
"Nope, rf" we replied "until the limit of her seat."
"Excellent! Much safer!" said the NP.

After hearing about other Pede's giving poor car seat advice, it was refreshing to have the NP first assume she was still rf, and then say that it was much safer that she was. Made my day!

where can i find info on extended rearfacing? i came on the boards to see if i could switch my ds to FF (he's 1 and about 23-25 lbs) since when he's rearfacing he's always pulling up off the seat to look around anyway.

but i'd like to make an educated decision and would like to read any info/research out there.

we have an MA by the way, does it vary according to carseat? thanks!

here is a recent thread on rear-facing - there are some links in the posts that show video of what happens ff vs rf in a frontal crash(plus all sort of other good info!) http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=13&topic_id=41375&mode=full&page=2
