CPS Techs--this couldn't possibly be considered safe, or even legal, for a 16-month-old, could it? It says from 25-40 lbs., and my 16-month-old is 26 lbs. I have never heard of these, but came across them while looking for travel alternatives to our RA and MA.

Is there a safe travel alternative that isn't as big/heavy as a normal convertible seat? What do you guys recommend?

Thanks!

It passes tests with a nice plastic dummy pretty nicely...but boy, I put my 13 mo in it a few (well, many ignorant) years ago, and it was hellish! Worked much better for my 5 year old last year :).

I really only consider it as a last-resort item (like going to Aruba and will maybe be in a taxi that maybe has a seatbelt...or new york city!) for kids 2-4/5 in the weight limits, otherwise it is *really* hard to use properly (can't really adjust the straps in the car, the belt kind of falls out of the belt path too easily...).

For a 16 mo I'd get a light convertible like the Cosco Scenera and use it rearfacing (it hooks onto a stroller nicely to get through the airport)...or even the Graco Safeseat1, if he still fits in it, and sell it to a friend after the trip.
