I went and got Charlie's BV checked today in my car. I knew it was fine, but I'm neurotic.
So I took him down there and the lady checked us out.
She's the SafeKids instructor for this county and the chapter leader (how lucky am I?), and has been for several years.
She said my car seat is only the FOURTH car seat she has checked that was perfect. In fact, she checked my install, then installed it herself, then had me do it again because she thought MINE was better!
Also, I told her that I use the anchors and straps to get it really really tight, and then buckle it in with the belt, and then undo the latch straps. That takes a LOT less time and is a lot easier and tighter than starting with the belt. She'd never heard of doing that before and loved it and said she's going to start doing it on all her seats!
And she was utterly in love with my BV (she's got a MA for her daughter) and wanted one so bad. I told her about the wizards being on sale over the weekend and she was so upset to have missed it!
She also liked that I got in front of the car seat and pushed it BACK, instead of just sitting in it and pushing it down (I do that too). She wasn't able to do it (it's hard) but she liked the idea.

She asked me for my email address and wants me to come work her events. Go me.

WOW! It is amazing how many seats there are out there that are not installed correct. I was just wondering why you wouldn't just use the latch anchors. I remember something about the seats (RF) roataing back but think I remember Julie saying that it wasn't a huge concern. I could be remembering wrong. I do like the idea for when my FF son outgrows the Latch limits and we have to use a seatbelt. It would probably really help get it in there tight. Thanks for the tip.

It's because he's in the middle and I can't use the outboard anchors in my car. But even when I CAN use anchors, I use the seatbelt if I can get as good or better an install with it, just because I trust seatbelts more than lower anchors.

Congrats, Splash! :)

Tara, when your son is FF and you use the seatbelt, its SO easy with a Britax. I do like their FF locksoffs a lot. I actually choose to use the seatbelt for my FF daughter just because its so easy. Not that LATCH is hard, but I just prefer the seatbelt for some reason. With my RF kid, I do use LATCH though, because I have trouble with their RF lockoffs. The "overrotation issue" isn't a concern in real life. (it was some small percent and the dummy stayed w/in the seat, it was on a bench seat, with a max weight dummy....)

You should totally get certified and do it.... you'd make a great tech.

and good for you for showing her your trick to getting it tight faster and easier.
