My baby decided to make an appearance on the exact same morning, May 12, that we had an appointment to get our car seat safety inspection. We have not been able to get another appointment yet and we have had to take a few trips out to the doctor.

We have a Graco SafeSeat and she really seems slumped over forward. She only weighs 6lbs so I don't know if this is a temporary problem that will resolve itself as she grows or if the seat should be more reclined. We will be moving the seat to the middle, but my husband put the seat in at the hospital, and I forgot to let him know to place it there.

Can anybody provide guidance on this issue? I have pics but I'm getting an error message when I try to upload. Thanks in advance.

How's the recline angle indicator looking? does it show it's in the proper range? is the recline foot adjusted down a notch or two so the seat is properly reclined? send me pics if you want [email protected]

what make and model and year is the car?

offhand, when the head flops, it's an indication the recline angle is not reclined enough.

I would suggest using the recline foot until the bottom of the base is parallel to the floor while the base is installed.

Next, make sure that the straps are snug enough that you can only fit one finger under them between her collarbone and the strap... they should be snug where they cross her hips, too, and you chouldn't be able to pinch any slack in the harnesses when you pinch the strap vertically on the shoulderstrap or horizontally across the hips.

the chest clip goes at the armpits.

here is a link for how to check the recline angle with a piece of paper if you are installing on a slanted piece of ground.

Thank you very much for the information. We will move the seat to the middle tomorrow morning and make sure to use the info you provided. The recline angle is in the appropriate range butit can probably be adjusted to recline a bit more. The vehicle is is a 2004 Mazda6 5-door. We will take pics and post after the readjustment.

Thanks again.

okay... I ran that through the database and the snugride fits outboard with latch well, so you should have no problems with the safeseat.

there wasn't anything under rf, so I think it is because the mazda 6 is still new.

The Safeseat does have a very wide range of allowed recline angles. I noticed that when I checked it out. Probably so that you can have it more upright for older kids since it goes to 30 lbs. I would recline it as much as you can while still keeping the indicator in the correct zone.

When I installed our safeseat in our Tahoe the level/angle indicator was showing the correct angle wether I had the adjuster flat or all the way out. It was at a 45 degree angle when the adjuster was almost completely out. I would try that to get the recline right for an infant. I think there is a wide margain where the seat level indicator shows correct since the weight on the seat is so high and older children like to be a little more upright.

I would try to get pictures showing the adjustment but I am on bedrest right now. I will see if DH can install it and take some tonight or tomorrow.

It always seemes to me that even when our snugride was at the correct 45 degree angle that the first few weeks the boys head still fell forward a bit. The infant head supports didn't help us any (I think they actually contributed to the problem) but I always thought a rolled blanket helped support the head much better. I usually always rode in back with the baby or Jackson would let me know when Tyler's head would start falling forward when I was driving.
