Especially if you're going somewhere and not renting a car? What if you're planning on taking a taxi everywhere? What do you do for carseat?

HELP!

Thanks!

i have only been in taxis twice w/ kids w/o carseats - both v. short trips. taxis w/o seats make me nervous. i bring carseats even when not renting a car.

I bring a lightweight travel seat like the Safety 1st Uptown and I take a travel bag that I got from Walmart.com:

http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_constraint=0&search_query=carseat+bag&ic=24_0

I got the top one w/ wheels. It works well and you can even put other things in the bag w/ the seat. Like I put DS's diapers and other supplies for him.

Everyone's comfort level on this is very different, obviously, but when we've been in big cities w/good public transport we've tried to use transit, and then just seatbelts in cabs when necessary. If I'm just going to be making short, in-town trips I haven't lugged a carseat. They do make the sit-and-stroll that I've seen people use a lot.

Eddie Bauer Portable vests or Ridesafer Travel Vests or a small backless booster... www.thecarseatlady.com has an article about the high rates of injuries in cabs on her site... I'd probably also just use a lap/shoulderbelt for a kid and pray, if I really had no other option.
