View Full Version : Advice on Graco's SafeSeat Fabrics

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Right now I have a SafeSeat for my 5 week old in the Fusion fabric. It is sort of a black/gray/blue color, and the fabric itself isn't very breathable. It almost feels like a nylon windbreaker fabric- I can't really think of how to describe it. The problem is that my DD roasts in this car seat. I'm not sure if it's the color or the fabric itself...probably a combination of both. The stores around here don't have a whole lot of other covering selections in stock, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend one of the SafeSeat fabric options that is more cotton-like and breathable, preferably in a lighter color. I will probably have to order online sight unseen and would like a recommendation on which covers to consider. Thanks!

We have the SafeSeat in the G collection and I bought it specificly for that reason. I paid quite a bit more for it than the fusion fabric but it was worth it for Jaci to be comfortable. It is a light tan color and the fabric is a cotton and then has a softer material in the center part. We have been really happy with it. A friend of mine bought the one from target which is black/grey/red and only used it for about 4 weeks and got another cover because her daughter was miserable. They really need better fabric options out there in the lower price points.

I have Legacy and it is not as stiff/rough as the Taget one and I think more breathable. When I looked for one, Central Park, G-Collection and Heirloom were the softest. Quinn, Legacy and I think Jenny were the middle of the road. Samba, Pierson, Fusion, Roxy, Ionic, French Roast and Meteor were all the stiffer, less breathable.

I went to Baby Depot (Burlington) to look at Legacy and then ordered online at Target.com. BRU usually has about 5 different patterns if you have one close.

That's good advice, the G is pretty soft...but by all means, call Graco and just order a cover...the phone rep might be able to tell you a little about the cover softness and fabric content... www.gracobaby.com has all of them listed.

If Graco won't let you order a different cover (they can be funny that way) you can order online by fooling the system. Basically, put in the model number of the one you want and make up a date of manufacture. So for G-collection, put model number 8A02GGG and a date of manufacture (01052007), for example and you can get a list of parts. The cover is $30, the head support is $13. If you want to be really matchy, the canopy is $18 (but OOS). They have really high shipping, IIRC, so be warned.

Thanks for the help everyone. I love how the people on this board are so willing to help a complete stranger. I talked to the store where I bought our car seat originally, and they will let me return it, so I think I will get a whole new seat in the G collection. If anyone is interested, it is on sale at Albeebaby.com.
