Car Seat Check Event

Has anyone ever organized one of these events? My preschool wants to have one and I said I would look into it. I've put in calls to my local Police department and also the Connecticut safe kids organization. But I just wanted to know what I should expect. Is it done for free or does the organization holding it pay for it. Can it be done only for a certain community (ie the parents at the school) or is it usually open to the public? Any info you have would be greatly appreciated.

I did one sponsored by our state highway patrol (CHP) here and it was a free service. I would imagine some "organizations" might want donations, though.

It's so hard to find someone to do installations here, I'm glad they did this back when I was a new parent! Though Dh was proud it was done correctly on his own. ;)
