View Full Version : Good All-Terrain (serious off-roading)?

Hi all! Over the past week weeks, I've found myself off-roading on some very rough terrain several times. I was wondering what some of the best off-roading strollers are. My Kiwi E3 has done well, but I wonder if there's anything better out there, it's so bumpy in there.

Any ideas?

I like my Jeep Limited Urban Terrain for rough terrain. The tires are inflated, though, so no pointy stuff and it's also a 3-wheeler, which could possibly be a problem if balance is an issue. It's a super smooth ride, though...even over lumps, bumps and grass. I heard it's even good in snow. I love it!

If your wanting it only for outside you could take up your wheel size, 16/20in etc...

I'd look around this site

FWIW i've also used prams in some pretty wild areas too ;)

Kiwi Explorer, Emmaljunga Husky, Emmaljunga EC Sport, Teutonia Y2K and even some older prams all come to mind. My Explorer is amazing over rough terrain, we take it hiking on really rough stuff and have never had an issue with it! For just 1 kiddo though a Y2K might be a great option.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do love my Kiwi, but it's been a little hard to maneuver on steep, crooked terrain (tree roots, holes, 50+ degree incline) and I think the lack of suspension makes it a very bumpy ride for baby. I certainly want swivel wheel(s) up front.

So, I was a little curious about the Zooper Zydeco because of the suspension seat. Hmm...

Is the Valco better outdoors than the Kiwi?

Honestly, if you consider a swivel wheel a must, the only thing which is better than your Kiwi is probably a Mountain Buggy. The Zoopers are neat looking, but I don't think you'll find that they are superior off-roading strollers, if you are on rugged terrain. I've owned or used most of the strollers mentioned in this thread.

In my opinion, the BEST single for SERIOUS off road terrain is the Teutonia Y2K. The suspension is amazing and it drives over all sorts of stuff like a little tank. I used it a lot on my family's ranch. We're talking about gullies, washed-out oil patch roads, and steep buttes. The only problem was a flat tire after running down a cactus.

I currently use a MBUD as my primary stroller and for most outdoor usues it has plenty of Grrr, but the Y2K really is in a class by itself.

The thing is, there is no swivel wheel stroller that is great for rough terrain. Same as there is no swivel wheel that is good for running. That's what fixed wheels are for.

I bet if you try one out on the terrain you are talking about, you will fall in love with it, and wonder why you didn't get one sooner, lol!

Furthermore, I would get a four-wheeler instead of a three-wheeler. They are much more stable on steep inclines, and very uneven terrain. Although as Stephanie said, the Teutonias are in a class by themselves, even the 3-wheelers. The only other 3-wheeler I would use for off-roading would be the Mountain Buggy Terrain.

There is a fixed, four wheel air tire model on Swap right now for $60, or at least there was. I would get that, or as Kath said, an older pram, for the uses you are talking about. That way, you don't have to spend a lot. You will be amazed at the difference in performance.

Hi Mariana!

Wonder if you ever reached any decision? Or if any of this helped? lol :)
