My 2004 MBUS is on it's way....I'm wondering what accessories I should purchase. Which ones have you found to be great, which are a waste of money...

Thanks

I found the carseat adapter REALL useful for the short 2 months that we used it. I did not have to worry about waking the baby up when moving her from car to stroller (and all the unclipping, reclipping etc involved). Especially when making a short trip to the grocery store or wherever, this was awesome. We soon moved her to the Britax Roundabout so did not get to use it too much (I wish I had bought it on day one but the Graco ones came out a month after i bought the stroller) but it was really great to have.

The other thing i like is the rain-cover thingy.

If you're in a cold area, the Stroller Cozy from The Company Store is great, and on sale now.

We got the bumper bar, and a tire pump.

Have not yet bought a storm cover (not sure we'd use it) and the sun shade (probably will but I'm holding out hoping that the 05 version will be black - the 04 is navy).

What color stroller did you get?

Best,
Mary

Hey Mary -
I got the black. I was wondering about the bumper bar - everyplace I looked said it wouldn't be available until March or April, so I thought maybe it would only work on a 2005 model and not the 2004. Do you know if the bumper bar has changed? I was also wondering about the tire pump - does a regular bicycle pump work? Is the MB pump smaller? Might be easier to carry around if it is.

I was going to post this on our NJ board, but I thought it might get more traffic here, and what's funny is that 3 of the 4 responses are from our NJ board!!!!

I have the bumper bar but keep forgetting to put it on LOL!!!!!

Gotta say...i LOVE the BOB...we were in Palisade Center this morning and I had my BOB loaded...2 soda's from McD's, plus yogurt..plus some change, etc. Now why can't they make a BOB that'll fit my Techno?!

Laura - do you know if MB changed the bumper bar at all? I want to make sure that if I order it it will fit the 2004 frame.

Thanks
Vicki

Vicki, you might ask Marilyn but to my understanding very little besides the handlebar changed between last year and this...seats and canopies etc. can still be exchanged between the two models, etc.

I would be surprised if the bumper bar changed. It's kind of cool...very easy to put on and then it snaps open and shut (with all the Stroller Cozy, a fleece blanket and DD in a fleece bunting I have to open it to get her in and out, LOL!).

Best,
Mary

Hi,
I have a 2004 MBUS with a bumper bar and it fits perfectly. It's a nice addition to a really great stroller!

In reply to whether a regular bicycle pump works, yes it does. Most better bicycle shops carry small pumps that cyclists can take with them. Something like this would easily fit in the basket of the MBUS.
Just make sure that the bike shop takes a look at the valve on your MBUS tires. There are two different types of valves used on bike tires. One is the same as the MBUS, the other is not. The bike shop will make sure that they give you the type of pump that fits.

The instructions with my MBUS recommend a tire pressure of 20 lbs, so you'll want to also have a tire gauge. (They said that pressure for a stroller may differ from the pressure listed on the tires themselves. )You might have one for your car already. Also, many bike tire pumps have a built in gauge, although these tend to be the larger pumps. But if you regularly check the tires at home you should be all set.

When I need to get my tires inflated on my MBUS, I just stop by a bike store and ask them to inflate them quickly. But, yeah, a regular bike pump will work. I just bought the MBUD and it came witha bike pump and although it is small and very compact, I've seen smaller ones at bike stores, so small they clip on the sides of racing bikes.

As for my MBUS accessory suggestions, for the first 9 months I used the car seat clip ALL THE TIME. I just bought the new carseat clip for the MBUD and plan to use that alot, too. I use the stroll'r swivel hooks all the time, still use the Snuzzler (even though my son is 20 months old), but the most indespensible accessory I have is the MB UV/Bug cover. I use it all the time. The nice thing about it is that the material is stiff and stands out so it doesn't bother my son and isn't right in his face. It provides great protection from the sun, bugs, and annoyingly curious onlookers (because they can see very little in the stroller when it's on) and yet air can get through it well for hot days. Can you tell I love it? (by the way, just got the 2005 cover and it still only comes in navy).

The one accessory I bought and rarely use is the clear storm cover. When it's on, very little air can get into the stroller and it gets stifling in there quickly. Even today I went for a walk with it on and it was 27 degrees outside (I'm crazy I know- blame it on cabin fever) and with my son dressed and with only one blanket on him, he was boiling. How often do you take your child in that kind of weather?

If you're ordering a bike pump, you need a Schraeder pump, not a Presta (though most quality bike pumps now come with adapters that mean you can use them on both types of valves). I have the MB pump that came with the '05 and I think a small bike pump would work better (that's what I use for my jogging stroller -- DH has quite a few bike pumps around). I only keep the small pumps in my stroller for emergency use. DH has a full-sized bike pump (the kind you step on and pump with both hands) that has a gauge that I use to (or, more accurately, get HIM to use) to keep the tires on my MBUS and jogger at the right pressure. And, yes, you will get the most accurate pressure reading from a gauge (which you should have in your car glove box anyway!).

As for the rain cover, I highly recommend the Graco one. Its cheap and it fits a variety of strollers. Plus, it has mesh vents on the sides, so it doesn't get too hot for the baby. And I really like how it covers the back of the stroller and the diaper bag.

I tried the BOB console with my '05 MBUS, but wasn't happy with how it fit on the adjustable handlebar. Others say they are fine with it.

I have a StrollNSoft fleece insert that seems to work great for DD (it is the larger size than the Snuzzler, same company though).

I'm still waiting for my bumper bar from Marilyn (sigh!), so can't comment on that. I thought DD wouldn't like the stroller w/o the bumper bar (she seems to like holding onto them on other strollers), but she seems fine without it. I miss not having one, though, b/c they are handy to attach toys to!

I have the swivel hooks, but haven't used them. I don't tend to use the MBUS while shopping, though, so if you will use it for that, you will find them useful.
