I've read good reviews about this "enclosed play area gate". I'm wondering why I can't locate it in stores?? I was recently at Buy Buy Baby and they had every other gate model by Kidco but the Playden. Anyone have any info?? Is this going to be discontinued??

We have it. We love it.

I have only seen it online or in catalogs. Perhaps it is too large an item for most places to stock? I have also noticed that most of the kidco line is only carried in a limited selection in stores, although there are a lot of great kidco products out there.

We use our playdens in our home office. We actually got two and connected them to make one huge area, then put rubber mat squares underneath. Dh works from home, so this is a great help to us (and we figured the money we could save in broken office equipment and computers could more than justify the cost. :)) It was actually cheaper to buy two complete sets than to add 4 more panels (the set is 6 panels).

As far as a good place to buy them, we ordered ours from ebabysuperstore.com, which was the cheapest I could find them. We were pleased with our order and I would order from them again, although that was the only time I have gotten anything from them.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I checked out ebabysuperstore.com and they no longer have it listed. I'm having a feeling it's discontinued for some reason. Every site that does sell it, it's out of stock. Can it be that popular??

http://www.babycatalog has it listed for $159.99. Doesn't say anything about it being out of stock. Dmart http://www.dmartstores.com/playingat.html has it for $154.88. eBabySuperStore http://www.ebabysuperstore.com/cgi-bin/ebaby.storefront/3db5d62e061985722751d8f5a50206a3/Product/View/1239 does seem to have it for less. We ordered ours from BabyCatalog last year, and got 10% off with the membership (we were ordering a bunch of stuff, so it made sense to buy the membership). Off course you need to check out everybody's shipping charges to see who really has the best deal.

If you're just curious about "how" it looks, it uses the same extensions as the Configure Gate. So if you can find one of those in a store, at least you'll have an idea on the "construction."

Kidco still lists the PlayDen on their site, so I can't imagine it's discontinued. http://www.kidcoinc.com/gates/pd10.htm

I found the playden at the same places suzska did, and I also found it at another site I check a lot:
http://www.babysupermall.com/main/products/kdc/kdc06420.html

Their price seems to be a bit higher ($199.98). I think it must be because the one they are selling comes with a customized pad that is the exact shape of the basic playden. If you're going to add extensions, then the pad would be a waste of money.

Another tip if you get the playden: We got a few sets of those rubber-type squares that go together like jigsaw pieces at the homedepot to go under the playden. Those both cushioned the floor and protected the carpet. And you can configure the squares to match the shape of your playden.

That's why I didn't bother listing this one, because of the pad. Yep, I had also checked babysupermall, but they don't have the one without the pad.

Where do you get these rubber squares that everyone is talking about? And why? Can't you just put the gates on the carpet? Are they just for looks? Are they expensive?

I personally think it's more for looks. It makes it less cage like and more play pen like using the rubber squares.

You can find them at any baby store in ABC or 123 patterns. They sell from anywhere from $25 - $40 depending on how many squares in the set.

They carry ones at TRU and Home Depot, too. Can't remember how many you get or how much they cost. We just used a large area rug (have hardwood) and sometimes a play quilt. But you could just put it on the carpeting.

Our home depot has them. $20 for 4 I think, maybe less $.

They are nice for protecting the carpet (like the bib says, "Spit happens") and we liked them for when dd was first pulling up and discovering gravity.
