Our fireplace hearth is flush with the floor (not raised up at all). This is good because he doesn't get hurt on it, but he still wants to get into the fireplace. Right now we have the Pack n'Play pushed in front of it (lovely decorating sceme ;0 ), but I'd like to find an afordable gate to go around the fireplace, maybe wall mounted on either side of it. The one at Home Depot was like $170! Anything for $50 or so?

Once we put glass doors on the fireplace, my DD doesn't open it and play in it anymore. She used to love that artificial embers and sand!

The Kid Co. Configure Gate or Hearth Gate would probably work for you, but they are pricey. In the latest One Step Ahead catalog I noticed a wooden knockoff of these Kid Co. gates that was quite a bit less expensive. I think it was called the Swing Gate. I do not think that it adjusts at 10 degree angles, but it did look like you could mount it out from the wall. HTH
