View Full Version : securing dresser drawers

My almost three year old son is using my old youth dresser. The problem is, there are not (and never have been) drawer stops on the drawers. If you pull them out all the way, they just fall out on the floor, on your feet, or worse. (And full of clothes, they are very heavy.)

Any ideas about how to make these more secure?

Thanks.

I have a similar dresser and we successfully used the Gerber spring drawer locks. Even once my daughter learned to open the spring lock she was more careful about it (undoing the lock itselt takes a little care and caution) and has never yet pulled the drawers out all the way.

You may also want to earthquake strap it to the wall. If it falls over (say if your son tries to climb on it) all the drawers could fall out at once.

Great ideas. I hadn't seen the Gerber locks, and they look good. Here's hoping they'll at least teach my son to be careful when opening the drawers. I like that thought.

Also, thanks so much for the suggestion about the earthquake strap. It sounds even more important!
