Baby Proofing a Swinging Door?

Our ped. just told us that we should start baby proofing. Our kitchen has a swinging door. Is there a way to baby proof it? I can just imagine Martie pushing on it and whapping herself on the face

Wow - your ped is really cautious! You should certainly start thinking about baby proofing, but you have a while to go until you actually need to do anything. We didn't install our first gate until Tom was six months old and it was still a while after that until we actually put it to use.

A friend of mine has a door like this. She put pads on the door so that her babe couldn't pinch his fingers in it. But as for the "whapping" problem, that may just be an issue you have to live with or else lock the door in some way.

Can you tie it open? That would prevent the whapping problem.
