Hi,
We need a mounted gate for the top of our stairs but the opening is 44" which is the size most gates extend to.
Any suggestions for a sturdy gate that can handle this?
Thank you,

The Kid Co. Safeway Gate can fit your space and is a good gate for the top of the stairs. http://www.kidco.com/gate_dis.cfm?Gate_ID=g20 The basic gate is 43 1/2" so it may or may not fit your space. That's pretty close. With the mounting parts, it might work. If not, you can always buy the extension. HTH

I've been seriously considering the Kiddy Guard gate for the top of our stairs. It works for openings up to 52". It is more like a roll-up window shade on its side than a traditional baby gate. As a result when it is opened it virtually disappears (rolls up). The gate can be operated with one hand, and makes a clicking noise when it is being opened (so you will know if your toddler has figured out how to get past it).

Most places charge about $110 for it, but I found it for $79.95 at:

There certainly are less expensive gates that will do the trick, but I really like the idea of the gate virtually disappearing when it is open.

I haven't bought one yet, but the kid isn't due until the end of January.
