Now that my DS spends half the day crawling all over my carpets, I've becaome disatisfied with the poor job that my current vacuum does on dog hair and dirt. I'm willing to pay alot for quality but would prefer real life recommendations over what the sales person at the store is telling me. Thanks!

I have a Miele Aluminium and love it-well as much as you can love a vacuum cleaner.

MIELE! They are a bit pricey, but totally worth it! It works really well on our long cat hair, and the filters are great for my allergies. Plus, it manuevers really well and is quiet! We love it!

I don't own one, but have heard great first person accounts on the 8 lb Oreck! Would love to try one myself if I could afford a new one!

I asked the same thing a few months ago, and we got a Dyson. TOTALLY love it. Again, pricey, but cleans *really* well!

Miele Aluminum- great job on everything so far! Just don't waste the expensive dust bags on sucking up half a bag of Cheerios off the kitchen floor.....

I have a Dyson Animal, which is specifically marketed for pet owners. It's pricey, but I love it! It does a great job on upholstery and carpets.

I second the Dyson. We absolutely love it and it is pricey. It is definitely worth every penny. The person that cleans our house every other week absolutely loves it as well and recommends it to all her clients. She is also planning to purchase one as well. They are available at Best Buy, Sears, etc. Sometimes Best Buy has no interest financing for a certain period on purchases over a certain amount so it does not seem to be such a hit to your checkbook.
