Stairs gate poll~~

Hey kids~

We're moving into a new house has stairs and we're going to need safety gates at the top and possibly bottom. i was wondering if you would mind telling me what gates you have (especially the top), do you like it/would you get it again, is it easy to operate one handed, where did you buy it, was it easy to install, do you have the same thing at the top and bottom? If you don't have a bottom gate, how did you decide to go gateless??

We have the Kidco Safeway Gate and The First Years Stair Gate for the top and bottom of the stairs. They are the same price. The First Years Gate was rated number 1 in Consumer Reports recently though the Kidco gate was not too far behind. I like the both but if I had to choose it would be the First Years. It is easier to open up one handed which is the norm since I am usually carrying DS up and down the stairs.

I bought the Kidco gate from a local baby store in my area and the First Years gate from TRU with a coupon. (We don't have a BRU n my area). You could also use a pressure mounted gate at the bottom of the stair if you like. My IL's have the First Years hands free gate for their dog and really like it. You just push on a step and walk through. I think Evenflo got the top rating in CR for pressure mounted gates but cannot remember exactly.
