Care to share your opinions on what type of gate I should get for my stairs?

My options are:
1) Block off the hallway to the stairs, but this blocks off dd's bedroom as well.
2) Get one of those long gates to block off the entire stairway and bannister area.
3) Find a special gate that will block off just the opening at the top of the stairs. I'd then go get some plexiglass to cover the bannister.
I'm truly hoping on option #3 and hoping you know of something that will help.
