Well, I have to say.. I've really slacked off when it comes to babyproofing. In my defense, Colwyn is never left alone unless he's in his crib.. which is a pain in the neck. Hence my desire to babyproof.

My two main concerns are the fireplace hearth, and the top of our stairway that has a wrought iron railing.

The fireplace hearth is about 3-4 inches off the ground, and at least 6' long. It's only about 6 inches deep. We never use the fireplace, so my only concern is about Colwyn cracking his head on the edges. I don't want to use something like the Kidco Hearth Guard because we don't have that much space to begin with. I'd also like it to look fairly nice, as it's actually in my parents' living room.

The stairway has a regular wall on one side, and a thin iron railing on the other. What gates work well with that sort of situation? How do I attach the gate to the railing?

Thanks!
