Raidra

Okay, so, we bought an Evenflo gate to go at the top of the stairs that has an iron railing on one side. We attached a piece of wood to the railing, and were all set to mount it.
However.. the instructions say not to mount it lower than 2" off the ground. Our railing is too low for that, though.. the hinge would be above the railing. If we put it 1" off the ground, it'd work fine.
Does anyone know how important that 2-3" off the ground rule is? Is it okay if it's just 1" off?
Thanks!
