Who ships internationally?

I was very disappointed that Amazon (Babies R Us), which claims to ship anywhere, would not ship a Baby Bjorn carrier to New Zealand. BabyCenter and BabyUniverse do not ship internationally. Baby Bjorn does not list any New Zealand affilates on their website. Any idea of who will ship directly to New Zealand?

I don't know of anyone. But Babycatalog had a note on their site that they would be happy to ship to someone you know in the US (Are you in the US or not? Wasn't clear from your post) and then that person could ship it overseas.

Specifically, does anyone know of anyone who will ship cribs to Germany? We will be moving there for a few years with an infant and would like to have a crib waiting when we get there.

Is there a reason you don't want to buy one there? I can't believe that there are not numerous places to buy cribs there. In France, there are many many baby store chains (many more than in the US actually) and they sold cribs and PacknPlay type items, etc. They may be more expensive than comparable items in the US, but the shipping would have to astronomical to ship a crib to Germany.

I believe you said you speak German, so why not try Yahoo Germany?

Before my trip to France I searched on Yahoo France for baby items and was quite reassured of the availability of pretty much anything I would need.

You could also try the Ikea website. They sell cribs and are all over Europe. Go to the Ikea Germany site http://www.ikea.de/ and see if there is anyplace near where you will be.

We would love to buy a crib there in Germany. They have so many wondeful baby things (strollers in particular, like nothing you ever see here in the states and thus the reason we're not even bothering to buy one here!) However, what we don't want to do is get off a plane, find the nearest baby store and buy a crib because we HAVE to. But if we don't, then where will the baby sleep until we do buy one? We will have a pack-n-play with a bassinette feature. But can that be used as a bed for a week or so?

I was just wondering if anyone knew--a long shot, I know--of any German equivalents to babyuniverse.com or any of the other thousand of on-line baby sites here in the states. My searching--in both German and English--so far has turned up nothing.

Any creative alternatives?

Thanks! I'll give them a look.

Although the crisis may be, temporarily, off. We just spoke today with a German friend who offered us her baby's cradle for the first six months. This would alleviate the pressure and allow us to take the time to really pick a crib we love.

But I'll definately check out the websites since we will be arriving with some initial clothes, a Baby Bjorn, and basically nothing else.

I work for a large US infant/toddler manufacturer, and I just wanted to let you know a little bit about how manufacturers look at international shipping. It can be a real nightmare! We sell to one of the military "Exchanges", and we have had to restrict shipping to US addresses only. Items, especially those made out of wood, don't travel very well by FedEx ground or UPS ground to begin with. Put them on a plane and try to get them halfway around the world in one piece, and you have a serious challenge on your hands! Additionally, if we ship overseas, and you get the item and there is a problem (cracked wood, thin paint coverage, whatever), then we have to ship to you overseas a replacement item -- and hope that it arrives in good shape, too. Filing freight-damage claims for overseas shipments are a nightmare and are usually not reimbursed by the carrier. This US-address policy is also in effect for all our Internet partners -- as much as we'd like the additional business, the risks are just too high. Hope this helps explain a little of the "whys".
