I have a serious complaint about the Babies R Us online registry. They misrepresent the registry totally. It is not really Babies R Us, it is Amazon.com. They carry items not carried at Babies R Us and not on your registry.
My friend order something she found on my registry on-line. Two people at the shower gave me the same gift (the Fischer Price monitor) so the registry did not work. She also gave me some hooded towels not on my registry. I have 10 hooded towels, so I do not need them. I tried to return them at Babies R Us and they do not carry them so they could not take them back. Furthermore, Amazon.com will not take them back because she made the error of having them shipped to herself so she could wrap them and take them personally to my shower. Now, even though it is still wrapped with original tags, they will only take them back (at my shipping expense) and credit her charge card for the gift. I cannot return them. It would be cheaper for me to throw them away. I have emailed them many times and called their customer service line. I have spoken to a customer service rep and a customer service specialist who told me they would do nothing about it except credit the gift giver and hung up on me.
Please make sure you next edition warns the public about this scam. I will do my part to make this public as well.Thank you for the responsible help you give through your book. I wish I had been warned about this messed up deal.

I received gifts I had purchased for Christmas presents on 12/10 IN JULY.

As far as my registry. I received my Diaper Champ on my doorstep from the online registry. The shipping paper inside was addressed TO someone else FROM someone else. So in other words AMAZON put the wrong paper into my box. It took me 3 people and a very long time on the phone before they would verbally read to me my correct gift message so I could thank the people. They just could not get it through their thick policies that they screwed up.

Yep, I've had this problem, too, with gifts as well as registry stuff.

I can not stand Amazon!!!!

Non baby related...but I got a gift certificate from a friend that came from Amazon via email. Well I worked in sales for a tech compnay and as most of us know many such josbs have been eliminated over the past several months. Well once I lost my job my certificate was lost in the emails.

I gave amazon the name of the person who sent it, may name my email at the time everything to make the match and they would not help me. I have one of the most unususal names in the world (first and last) and know no one on this earth shares it. My email address was my name in full...they still wouldn't help at all, one customer service person hung up on me...

I bet they are making a killing from others in thw same situation...

Can't stand them!!!! I tell everyone who will listen to avoid them!!!!

I looked into this because I was worried about having an online registry and a store registry. You can return things to Babies R Us from Amazon IF the Babies R Us store stock its. So far I have only registered for things available at both the store & Amazon or just the store. If you register for things only available at the BrUS store the online register will list it, but tell people it's at the store. If someone goes shopping and gets stuff not on my registry at Amazon, that's a risk I guess I can live with. Up until recently there were no BrUS stores in the Metrowest Boston area and I had to drive over an hour to get to one, so the online registry was very helpful. I checked into other registries like Baby Depot etc., but they run even worse as far as I can tell. So far it's been working OK for me. I'm sure everything will not run perfect, but I'll probably only get 2 or 3 of the same thing instead of 5-6.

I just saw last night on www.target.com that they're going Amazon, too!

My experience with BRU/Amazon registry: I had registered for a diaper genie. My co-workers purchased it on-line and had it shipped to my home so I didn't have to lug it. Becuase they ordered the Genie Starter set, which includes 3 refills, I could not return it at the store! The store must carry the identical product! It makes it so difficult. It is advertised as a convienience to have your registery on-line, but then they complicate things!!! It is ridiculus that BRU can't handle the return.

Luckily, I had the receipt for the other Genie I received so I was able to return that. But I can see this could cuase people major problems.

On a slightly different note:

Don't throw the hooded towels away. Worst comes to worst, there are many charities that would really appreciate brand new (or gently used) baby things, and you can always get a tax writeoff for whatever you donate. This is a good time of year to have a donation because you can either use it now or hold off until January if you think you'd prefer the deduction next year.

The other possibility is re-gifting. I know it sounds like a dirty word, but I have found it very helpful, especially when my husband tells me, "Oh the friend I had back in college just had a baby. You've never met them, they live 4 states away but we should send them something.". When this happens I just go to my supply of never-used baby gifts and pull out something. I can't tell you how many times I have gotten a baby gift I don't need or already have a duplicate of and this is the best way to use it. Of course items that I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable giving to others are always welcomed at charities (as I mentioned above).
