I wasn't sure where to post this, but has anyone thought about birth announcements yet? I am shocked at how expensive many of them are! I'm looking at photo announcements, and I've fallen in love with these: http://www.celebrationcottage.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=cc&Product_Code=PB-26&Product_Count=1&Category_Code=21bp

But they are expensive, especially once you pay for stamps.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are these simple post cards:http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3132573&cat=174849&type=52&dept=5426&path=0%3A5426%3A166647%3A174849

Sigh. I so want the cards in the first link! :D

Anyone have suggestions on announcement cards that are a good deal??

I just received some from Naptime Productions. They look very similar to the link you posted but cost a bit less ($95 for 50 cards vs $140). Still expensive though. I was very happy with them, the cards look great and the order had a very quick turnaround. Here's the site:

Hello,

I can't help much with good deals on professionally done cards but thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I shopped several sites for announcements and had the same sticker shock you had.

So what we've decided to do is print our own at home using nice cards we got at Office Max. I got these really cute cards 8.5x5.5" with a full color baby border for $5.99 per package of 16 cards with envelopes. We're designing the print ourselves on our home computer and will add a photograph from our digital camera and print them out at home in color.

We'll probably end up spending less than $35 including postage - and maybe even less than that because I had a $10 off coupon for Office Max that I used when I bought the packages of cards.

I would like to buy professional cards but I just can't afford it, and I figure most people just pitch it in the trash anyway when they receive it.

Hope you find a good solution for you!

I recently ordered announcements similar to the ones you like from storkavenue.com. They were 1.69 each, minus 10% (look on the website for the deal). I was very happy with the job they did!

Check out www.warmfuzzys.net. They have great prices and Reni is so quick and very helpful. I used them for my shower TY notes and then for the annoucements. The turnaround time was less than one week from when I ordered.

If you are willing to do some of the work, Target had a box of 50 vellum print your own announcements for $20.

I went with Babyshere.com and couldn't have been happier. They were very affordable and looked great. You can either buy the announcements printed or the piece of paper and print it yourself. I went with the Boy's Best Friend annoucement which is a doggie pulling the baby.

I plan to use announcements from www.babyjcards.com. She also has 100% feedback for her work on eBay, http://tinyurl.com/byf43. 50 cards for $50.00.

We got ours from http://www.babyjcards.com and I was very pleased! If you'd like to see what ours looked like, I actually have a picture of the proof up on my blog: http://mrsvibert.blogspot.com/2005/07/more-pictures.html
She charges $1 per card and that includes the envelopes. Shipping was also extremely fast.

I made my own announcements too. I'm trying to attach a pic, but am having a hard time doing so, so my apologies if it doesn't show up. Anyhow, I got ribbon and card stock from michaels, and I ordered velum paper from paperandmore.com. I scanned in a baby pic and printed it on the card stock, and then I printed out all the announcement info on the velum to be placed over the cardstock. Lastly, I glued the velum and the cardstock together on top with a pink bow. I only had to make a few (20 or so) and it was a fun project too.

We also used inababycarriage.com last month. I think she's running a special right now. I was really impressed with her customer service.

I want to second babyjcards. We had a wonderful experience ordering from them and Juliette has the best customer service. I received my announcements in less than a week and you can't beat the price at $1.00 each. I'm going to try to attach a copy of my sample, but forgive me if it doesn't come through- I've never done an attachment on this board before.

We got our announcements from www.purplestork.com . We ordered their design service for $40 and then printed our own through one of the oline photo sites for $.17 each.

Another inexpensive option is Costco - they use Snapfish but give you much better pricing. That is how we did our Christmas cards this year. You can make your cards on costco.com and then go pick them up at your local store.

Has anyone done a birth announcement w/ a "Jr." or a "III" after their baby's name? I can't find any examples. In addition, I wanted to put baby's "nickname" (the name s/he will actually be called instead of the formal name) on the announcement. If it's a boy, my husband is a William III, and we wanted to call the baby Liam. Any ideas?

I am going to go to Costco Photo Center to get my announcements done. They are $15.99 for the first 50 prints/envelopes, and $5.99 for each additional set (25 prints/envelopes, I believe). You can go to costco.com to double check :)
