i have seen a couple of you post about ordering things from LE etc. I am really keen on this showerbaby thing but it costs 250$US. I spoke with an employee last night and he thought since it was a personal hygenine prduct it would be charged duty? What do you guys know?

You could contact customs? they should be able to help you with more details on how any extra charges would play out.

What's nice with shopping from LL.Bean, Lands End and Hanna Andersson for example are they cover taxes/duties all at the same time during purchase so no extra charges are owing when the package arrives. However most places do not work this way and different shipping methods can incure higher fees.

:) Good Luck

Wow Pamela,

I never knew that. Oh, DH will not be happy about this, LOL! I'm going shopping! Between the great exchange and the good after-Christmas sales...

I have always been so careful with the duties/customs because I got burned really badly on a stroller once - $35 brokerage fee + $15 customs/GST on a used $100 stroller. Gimme a break - if the stroller were marked $99, the brokerage fee wouldn't have been an issue with this shipper!

You can go to the CCRA web site and determine if there will be customs/duty, but be forewarned that a lot depends on the description the sender gives. I got a used Mac raincover and had to pay $6 duty anyway because the description had the word "plastic" or something like that in it (the raincover was free, so it wasn't a big deal). Also, if the product is made in the US is a big factor. If it is, no duty because of NAFTA. It is all very confusing! If you can get it in Canada, get it in Canada - way less headache.

LOL guess i should have kept quiet? :D

It IS nice being able to shop that way and with our dollar being worth more of a proper value, you can look away from home so-to-speak.

Hanna andersson tho is very pricey ;) but they had their 30% off sale before xmas so i jumped in for their special playdress for the girls.

LL.Bean & Lands end backpacks and diaper bags are great, lunch boxes too :) plus i got my son one of Lands end squalls w/puppy dogs ..plus lands end overstocks you can grab some good deals, i got some more playdress's for my daughters from their overstock page.
Ship quick too!

Ok i will stop...i hear Hanna andersson has 20% off total orders till the 16th...really well made, soft too :+

Hmmm...thats interesting about those site including the shipping with the price..sounds good to me.
I wonder if the shower baby would get taxed since it is made in the US..is there anything I should ask them to put on the packaging? To perhaps alleviate the duty problem?
