This isn't exactly new, but if you're the outdoorsy type, go to www.mec.ca (Mountain Equipment Co-Op's website) and check out the Outdoor Gear Swap, particularly the Kids section. It's a great place to pick up high-quality snowsuits, rainsuits and other stuff, plus bike trailers, backpack carriers, jogging strollers and the like. And since it's free to advertise there, it's a great place to list stuff you want to sell later on!

What sorts of deals turn your crank? What kind of things are you in the market for?

Cheers,

KathyO

Congratulations! April will be here before you know it! :)

What types are things are you looking for? Furniture, clothing, cloth diapers, carriers... ? Where are you located?

Thanks Ladies for your replies..
I live in downtown Toronto and I am in the market for most everything..minus the basinnette and the crib which have been given to us. Today I was at BRU in Oakville and found a Sherman glider for 399 including the ottoman, which I thought was a good deal, the only downside is that it doesnt recline.
The bigest problem is the stroller. I am having a heck of a time with that one. All I know is we want big wheels. Not sure about 3 or 4. We will have a snap and go for when baby first arrives. I am also planning on using a diaper service for the first 6 months. So I am looking at cloth diapers. Some of them are sooo cute.

Not baby-gear per se, but for the moms of toddlers out there, I just found a bunch of Neurosmith stuff at Walmart marked WAY down. The Music Blocks was $20 (the newer smaller version), and the Musini was also $20. I had recently bought the older Music Blocks at Winners for $35 (and I thought that was a bargain), but $20 is amazing. They also had tonnes of other toys marked down.

BTW, for music cartridges, I bought some at www.zooscape.com - they are in Ontario and the prices are good.

Hmmm... other bargains... I agree about MEC. I also check out Once Upon a Child.

As for strollers, the best deals are on StrollerSWAP. It is a Yahoo Group set up by Strollerqueen and I have bought 2 strollers there. A Bebecar Unibig and a Maclaren Concorde. There was a lady selling a Teutonia in the Toronto are a few months back. They are la creme de la creme strollers, if you are interested.

The link is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StrollerSWAP/

It is primarily for used strollers, but people on these boards tend to buy strollers and use them very gently before wanting to try something new. There are a bunch of Peg Peregos for sale right now, as well as a Zippy. Most people will ship to Canada, and the prices are good.

Good luck in April (that is pretty soon!)

Thanks for posting the link to the Yahoo Group - I've had a frustrating time finding a) retailer in Canada who have online ordering and b) American retailers who will ship to Canada, so maybe I will be able to get the stroller of my dreams in the end :)

If anyone lives around Calgary, the Baby & Me clothing shop is clearing out last year's summer fashions right now. Even if they're from last year, they're still new to me :) Both locations (north and south) are participating.

MEC does have a twice-yearly swap at their store, but it's a real zoo and some folks price stuff way too high. I prefer to watch the online swap, which runs all the time. Go to www.mec.ca and click on Outdoor Gear Swap, then Kids, to see kid-related gear. I just picked up a mint-condition MEC snowsuit and rainsuit for next year that way.

Cheers,

Well congratulations! We had a dilema with strollers too. I am very active and wanted something I could do everything with. We wanted something that I could jog with and attach to a bike, but that wasn't as big as the house. The Chariot Cougar was the way to go. It's fabulous and made here in Calgary. It folds down to nothing and the big wheels have a cool mechanism that takes them on and off in seconds, for storing in the trunk. You can even attach x country skis to it! They have a website. http://www.chariotcarriers.com/
