View Full Version : OT: How to disinfect used hockey skates (x-posted in Lounge)

I figure some fellow Canucks might have some suggestions since this is a pretty common problem here, I suspect!

This is a weird question, but I can't find the answer online. I bought some second hand hockey skates for myself and the store said that they do not disinfect the skates. I asked if I could spray Lysol in them and they said that they thought it would be bad to have Lysol against your feet once it got into the skates. I am not sure what is worse - Perma-Lysol or potential foot fungus!? Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on how to do this?

ETA: These are VERY used higher-end hockey skates and it is very common among hockey players to wear very thin or no sock. I plan to wear them with socks, but thin ones probably.

There is a cleaning method by Esporta Wash Systems. They clean and disinfect sports equipment. My husband got his hockey equipment cleaned last year.

For a pair of skates, it would be around $10.

There is suppose to be 3 locations in Calgary:
1) Max Bell Arena 403-204-9013
2) No Sweat 403-204-1401 8720 Mcleod Trail

Their web site is: www.esporta.ca
