In light of the high Canadian Dollar, I thought it would be fun to start a thread of merchants in the US that are Canadian Savvy.

Border Free ~ this is a great site, that lists a pile of merchants that have set up an agreement with Canada Post for online shipping, these companies will collect the GST and Duty, which means there will not be a brokerage fee. Although, some items will still be pricey because they carry a higher duty rate, there are some items that are duty free no matter what - such as toys, books. Here is a link - http://www.aacb.com/tools/tariffguide.htm

Hanna Andersson, Barnes & Noble, LLBean - all of these collect the GST/Duty too. Does anyone know of others?

Barnes & Noble has awesome shipping rates to Canada, and of course LLBean is offering free shipping!!!!

LANDS END!!!!!!!! They collect GST & duty up front AND, if you live near a Canadian Sears store with a LE shop in it, you can return for free to Sears Canada. AND, you can order in Sears Canada store for free shipping.

LL Bean and LE are my favorite online shopping sites. I've been shopping them for 2 decades (not a typo). They ROCK. HA is OK, their shipping to Canada is steep and their quality is hit & miss.

I also forgot about the airmiles shops, although I think a lot of them overlap with Borderfree.

http://www.airmilesshops.ca/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=airmilesshops/SearchByCategory&DeptID=1127326540382&SubDeptID=1127326540382&RefererPage=Home_BrowseStores_CatDropDown_11273265 40382

And you get to collect airmiles :)

Melissa - I had no idea about the Sears returns, I'll have to remember that, a great tip. I also wish HA would lower their shipping prices...

Zappos!

THe duty is pretty high though, but if you do a search from low price to high price, there are sometimes really cheap shoes to make it worth your while, and of course if you bought some that were made in NA, then there won't be any duty. BUT, I think they still charge it, and then refund you later....not sure on that one.

For the second time in the last two weeks, the LandsEnd staff at Sears (Brentwood mall) told me that I can't get free shipping ordering in store. But they did confirm that I can return any LE items for free in store. I hope they will change that soon for Canadian customers as they really don't have a lot of selection in store. (Well, at least at the kids section.)

I called LE and they said that that store is wrong, you DO get free shipping in store at Sears Canada.

Maybe call again??

OK, well now I'm pissed. I just called Brentwood and they (rudely, of course) said no free shipping in store. I called LE back -- the first CS agent said no free shipping, the second said yes, and then the third, after FIFTEEN MINUTES, said no free shipping in Canada unless you are doing a return.

THIS SUCKS.

Is this what is going on in Ontario?????? Has anyone gotten free shipping when ordering instore at Sears Canada????

Sheesh. You'd think they could get their stories straight.

I don't know if anyone else posting here knits, but www.knitpicks.com charges all duty at the checkout, and ships to Canada (via Canada Post) for a flat $8.95 or so. I've ordered both needles and yarn, and they've been excellent quality.
