I am about 27 weeks pregnant and have begun to experience lower back pain. Does anyone have any remedies for this? I am thinking of getting a massage, but in the time being, any advice would be helpful! Thanks,
~ECH

Here's an exercise that seems to help me (30 wks): Get down on all fours, keeping your back straight -- don't let it sag in the middle. Then arch your back like a cat, tightening/tucking your butt under. Hold for about 10 seconds and repeat 5-10 times. This helps me a lot, esp. at the end of the day, it really seems to get the "kinks" out.

Of course, back and foot massages are wonderful too! Fortunately my husband does both with tremendous patience and skill!;-)

I swear by yoga, it's relaxing and energizing. I have 2 pregnancy yoga workout videos if you are interested. I had/have pretty significant sciatica during my pregnancy and it helped tremedously. Or you can check your local Y or community center for classes.

I also have experienced back pain during pregnancy (I am 32 wks), and the "get down on all fours" exercise has helped me. My Dr. also recommended a heating pad as well. My back pain was bad enough that it took my breath away when I moved, especially when I was semi-propped up in bed reading books. Poor DH had to help me roll over to one side or the other!
You can also try a warm (not hot!) bath as well...a nice way to wind down. Massages (by hand or with a massager) have helped me as well..I can't tell you how many times I have fallen asleep while DH has given me a massage.
If your back pain gets worse or is really bothering you, talk with your Dr. My sister had sciatica when she was pregnant. She ended up being referred to a specialist, who gave her a TENS unit to help with the pain.
Good luck, and I hope this helps! :)

I would suggest seeing a chiropractor. That was the only thing that seemed to help me during my pregnancy. They had a special table with a hole in for a pregnant tummy, so you could lay on your tummy druing the adjustments. After the adjustments, get a massage to help you relax. I enjoyed my pregnancy massages more than any I had ever had. Made me forget I was pregnant for an hour!!!

Good luck!

I, too like my yoga workout videos. Yoga is nice because it is so gentle and you can just do a few poses when you feel like it without doing a whole video. I have also become friends with my heating pad on my back. It feels so good!
