Uploading a Picture

I keep trying to attach a picture of Miriam, like other people have done with their babies, but it won't work. I click on "Click here to choose your attachments," then I click "Browse," and choose a picture from my computer. Then I check JPEG or GIF (I've tried both) and click "Upload file." But when I get back out to this page, there's no link in the Attachment box.

Can somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong!!

After you click 'Upload File', you should see a message at the top of the box that tells you if it was uploaded successfully or not. If it was, you'll see the link. If it wasn't, there's usually a message telling you why. If it loading successfully, close the window. In the 'Attachment' box, you'll just see four digits. All the uploaded files get the same name, with the exception of the last four digits. Does that answer your question?

It doesn't say anything at the top--either that it worked or didn't work, and nothing appears in the box. Obviously I must be doing something wrong. Maybe the picture is saved as the wrong type of file on my computer. I'll check that.

Well, I just looked at my pictures to make sure, and they are JPEG, so I don't know what's wrong. Did you upload yours from your computer or a web site that you created?

I'm not sure why it's not working, it sounds like you are doing it right, to attach a picture. If you are trying to do an avatar (little square picture that appears in upper left of all of your posts) try reading the instructions in this link:

It sounds like the size of the file you are uploading is too big. You will have to use software to make it smaller, either by changing the dimensions of the picture or the resolution of the image.

It has to be under 50K, I think.

It got changed from 50 to 20000. Big difference!! :)

Even though you can put an attachment up to 2000K, for an avatar it works best if it is under 50K. I learned that after many unsuccesful attempts. What I do is save it as web ready and specify it to be exactly 50K. Also what is your internet connection? I use dialup and if I am loading a big attachment sometimes it will take awhile. Don't close the window until you get the confirmation. After that I highlight the link,post the message, go to profile, and paste the link onto avatar.

Okay, so what you do is click on that attachment link. It will open a new page. Highlight and copy the web address for that page. Then paste it into the specific avatar area under User Profile. (I think that's where the option is.)

Well, it's obviously too small. How were you able to see it? The instructions said it had to be 50 or less, and that's 47.

Nope, not me. She was a flower. Now I just have to go back and make the picture big enough to see!

I guess I'm just going to have to keep changing the size and trying it--and driving everybody crazy with my posts! But this will be my last try for a while--I've got too much to do!!!

Anna, if you were asking me, yes, that's the cow costume. I was bored with his other avatar, but I'll probably change to a Xmas one soon! Just working with what I have on my computer.

your picture has a lot of white space around it, you have to get rid of that somehow. That is why it looks so small as the avatar, it is trying to keep all that white space.

Oops--I guess it would help if I saved it as a JPEG file instead of a text file!

okay now you want to copy that URL into your profile so it knows where to find it and you should be all set!

If it comes out distorted, have your mom crop it into an exact square for you and try it again.

Yeah! Thanks for all of your help. I just wish the corner of my face wasn't in the picture! Now I know how to do it when I want to change pictures.
