View Full Version : So what's worse than bedrest...

Needing to be on bedrest and having a baby with a Sinus infection and Pneumonia who needs his mommy!!! I spent my afternoon at the doctor's office getting Tyler X-Rays (no fun esp. when the women seem to resent the fact that I am pregnant and can't help). This afternoon Tyler's fever shot up again and his breathing was labored so I packed the boys up (yes...I was home alone even though I am not suppose to be) and headed to the doctor. There are some things that only a mommy can take care of because obviously DH didn't take care of it Thursday when he took Tyler in. In a mad rage I insisted that he DID NOT have the croup and that I am suppose to be on bedrest and that I wanted them to figure out why he has been so sick for 3 weeks straight because I can't keep up with a sick baby from bed.

UGH...When it rains it pours. I almost have to laugh because if I don't I will cry. I give up...we will have to bring help in.

So now a question...We were given a new nebulizer for Tyler that has a paci attachment. At first I thought this seemed perfect because he HATES the mask but I am wondering if he is getting enough of the treatment. It is blowing directly at his nose but it seems like the mask might be more effective (although it is a fight to keep it on him). Do you think it is OK to use the paci attachment or would you do the mask. I just want him better SOON!

Okay, that's all a nightmare! I can't believe you are going through this- mothers are AMAZING!!! And YOU are amazing!

Anyway, i have had a child with pneumonia, although not with a nebulizer, but my instinct would be that a treatment that he is actually using is better and more effective than a treatment that he fights. Although you want him better soon maybe it's best to give it a day or two and if you don't see improvement then switch to the mask.

I hope you are resting right now!

YIKES! Too much going on. Sorry to hear that. I hope things get better soon.

As far as the nebulizer goes...

We've done nebulizer treatments for about 18 of Susanna's 24 months. I've never seen one with a paci attachment. I think I would feel like the mask would be more effective as well. I know it's a PITA to deal with the mask and most kids hate it. When Susanna was in that phase (she's been turning her machine on and holding the mask herself for about 6 months), I just kept telling myself that as she was screaming that it was making her breath deeper and inhale the mist deeper into her lungs. Ok...it didn't make me feel THAT much better but it helped get through it. :-) Good luck.

big (((hugs))) to you. im sorry that you have so much going on now when you really should be resting. i hope that tyler gets well soon.

sorry no good advice about the nebulizer except if he fights the mask to the point he isnt getting much of the meds in then i would think that the paci one would work better.

big (((hugs))) to you. im sorry that you have so much going on now when you really should be resting. i hope that tyler gets well soon.

sorry no good advice about the nebulizer except if he fights the mask to the point he isnt getting much of the meds in then i would think that the paci one would work better.

oh Tara, so sorry! I hope Tyler gets better soon! No btdt experience but I wanted to offer you some hugs!

I know you're not in my area, but I would be there in a heartbeat if I could!
