All these a**holes with the fireworks are driving me mad. They ruined my son's nap yesterday and made his bedtime impossible tonight. I wish they would just stop!

Do you have a fan or white noise machine? This might help block the noise from outside. It's not that hot out tonight but DD has both the AC and white noise machine going in her room in case of fireworks noise.

I hope it gets better!

Best,
Mary

Amazing that they are illegal, yet everyone is setting them off, huh? We play music while DS goes to sleep, so it isn't bothering him. But my poor dogs will not go outside for probably the next two days.

Surprisingly, there were no fireworks in my neighborhood tonight. Don't know if there was a crackdown or if they are saving it all for tomorrow night.

No way! I called the POLICE the other night...they seemed to be pissed at me for making a big deal, but my DD couldnt sleep and if DD doesn't sleep Mommy doesn't sleep....and so on.....we live right next to the civic center in our town and they have an ENORMOUS fireworks display on the fourth. It's going to be a long night tonight for us as well seeing as how DD has an ear infection!!! we're so close to where they set them off...i'm afraid she's going to scream the whole time!!!! This used to be my favorite holiday.......

Megs, I totally agree with you and Deb on this. If it's against the law to set off fireworks in your area, then call the cops and let them deal with it. Better to let thm mediate then end up with a potentially nasty dispute with the neighbors.

Megs, you're in the StL area, right? I remember from growing up there that in StL county it's illegal to buy fireworks, set fireworks, or even carry fireworks in your car. (We used to go to neighboring St. Charles county, where my cousins lived, to celebrate the holiday for this reason.) I'm still getting used to the idea that in PA, where I live now, it's legal to set off certain types of fireworks (non airborne, non-exploding ones).

Have a happy and safe 4th! Deb, I hope you all get some better sleep soon. :)

Ugh, at MIDNIGHT they were still going off. I think the guy down the street followed me to find out where I lived. There were a few very loud booms, like they were right out in front of our house, one of which WOKE UP DS and ruined the rest of my night. He had a very, very hard time settling down (he was so scared) and would not sleep without me lying next to him.

Okay, if it's bad tonight I am definitely calling the police.

I agree that you should. Two little kids around here (2 & 7) went to the hospital 'cause their dad's rocket went sideways instead of up. Professionals do a lot safer job than drunk neighbors, ya' know?

I understand. Alls surprisingly quiet here today but Saturday won't be fun. There is a fireworks show in my town. Literally hundreds of people walk by my house. It's at the local park 6 blocks down so it's loud. With a new baby this year and a 3 yo it will be interesting.

I'm surprised that you didn't call them right then. They knowingly disturbed your little guy's rest! We sleep-deprived Mommies can really put a damper on neighbors who are acting both drunk and stupid. }(

If they're back on tonight (or any other night), call the cops. Let them handle it.

I'm surprised that you didn't call them right then. They knowingly disturbed your little guy's rest! We sleep-deprived Mommies can really put a damper on neighbors who are acting both drunk and stupid. }(

If they're back on tonight (or any other night), call the cops. Let them handle it.

Yeah, I know. But I had no idea where it came from and there was just that one loud boom and no more.

Tonight if it's bad, I will call though. I need some "me" time and some peace and quiet around here, meaning ds needs to sleep tonight!!!

Ugghhh. The neighbors were up till midnight setting off fireworks, half of which exploded over my house. The screen is covered with ash and I’m crossing my fingers that the pool’s solar panels were not damaged from it. Last year they were as hot ash melted some parts of it and caused them to leak. Thankfully, DD slept through it, but I didn’t!!! Sigh…

Deb, I hope your night went better and that your DS was able to get some sleep!

That totally sucks!!! I hope your pool is okay. What rude neighbors!!

I guess last night I was prepared for it. I mean, how are you going to stop everyone? At least none of my immediate neighbors were being dumb.

I can't believe what people were shooting off, though. Fireworks are ILLEGAL in my state. I saw things that looked like a professional display. I guess since our family has had some bad experiences with explosives (my uncle lost his arm to fireworks, my dad survived a grenade in Vietnam, and a family friend messed up his hand BAD with fireworks), I just don't see the point.

DS sat at my bedroom window watching it all. It all died down around 11 or so and he went to sleep pretty quick after having not napped either due to all the fireworks.

Grrrrr! The city fireworks went on until almost 11! Well, good for people who don't have a kid who wakes up at 5 am, but for the rest of us poor schlepps, this was really annoying! Then the young guy who lives two doors down kept setting them off until 2:30 this morning! I was going to call the police but every time I got out of bed to get the phone it would go quiet for half an hour.

What is the point of fireworks?!? They make loud noises and light up. I get it, already!!!!!

We did call the police last evening because 3 kids (probably ages 7, 9, and 11) were setting them off in the playground across the street from us. They are illegal and dangerous. They were holding them in their hands and lighting them off! There were little kids playing on the play structure 50 feet away. The officer came and loaded them all into his car, hopefully to take them home and give their folks a talking to.

Grrrrr! The city fireworks went on until almost 11! Well, good for people who don't have a kid who wakes up at 5 am, but for the rest of us poor schlepps, this was really annoying!
