View Full Version : I understand being scared of dolls now

The in-laws bought DD a doll and a stroller. Now, I do not have a beef with this as a theory. I'd been contemplating it, but DH was rather opposed. I wouldn't have bought the Fisher-Price aquarium doll stroller with 50 million features that doesn't fold, required assembly, and would have battery-operated lights and music if DD's grinch-like parents would only fork over a battery, but it's not offensive.

The doll, however. The doll is a "Baby's First Giggles". It is scary. I am not normally scared of dolls, but this one is deformed. It has the worst case of plagiocephaly in history, and its bellybutton, which shows, is a very unfortunate outie. (I can't find a picture of ours on-line. It's worse than any of the onesie-wearing ones I can find. More ruffles. And the horrible bellybutton.)

Plus, it theoretically giggles when you squeeze its tummy. It's not a horrific giggle, actually. But the little electronic box migrated immediately. So to make it giggle, you have to firmly grab its crotch. Even MIL said this morning "That's a bit rude". The rest of us have the worst trouble not having hysterics.

MIL is desperate to get DD to name this thing. This is the child who owns 5 stuffed dogs, 4 of which are named "Puppy". (Most of the time. They are also sometimes called "Chihuahua". 2 of them are dalmations. One of them appears to be a golden-retriever/saint bernard cross, and the remaining one is the harness with the stuffed dog on it, which doesn't have a clear breed, but it certainly isn't a chihuahua.) DD therefore says it's named "Baby". MIL says yes, but what's baby's name? Repeat until DD wanders away.

So the good news is, now I get to buy DD a replacement. I'm thinking Corolle Calin Douce Vif.

Yikes! What an *interesting* sounding doll. I hope your MIL is able to see the futility in getting your DD to name it.

DD therefore
>says it's named "Baby". MIL says yes, but what's baby's name?
>Repeat until DD wanders away.

Don't you love how logical the kids are? Hope DD sticks to her guns. We have at least 3 babies here ourselves. Post a picture of this fright-fest if you can, would love a good chuckle :)

The number of risque comments I could make here is making me giddy...I'll hold myself back, though, for everyone's sake :D

I'd love to see a pic, too, if that's a possibility...please?

Somebody at work pointed out that since it has its arms up and legs out, and it's wearing frilled hotpants and a belly-baring top it *really* sounds like it's working the streets. (The frilly cap is not a happenin' hooker look, though, I gotta admit.) I will take a picture of DD and Baby this evening -- is it wrong of me to hope that DD remembers that she usually gets those press noises to go by standing on them?

Yep, sounds like our house! Every baby is "baby", every bear is "bear". It's just how it is!

Me too! A good chuckle and a very interesting picture pops into mind. That doll sounds creepy though. And DS doesn't talk yet, and WE'RE calling all his stuffed dogs "Puppy."

Lol. I could not stop laughing when I read about your migrating giggle box and your MIL saying 'thats a bit rude'. That is too funny.
The doll does sound very interesting and since DD isnt interested a replacement sound like a very good idea :)!

LMAO. Ds and MIL has the SAME conversation when he was two. "What is your baby's name?" Ds: "Baby?" REpeat several times as I am snickering mentally in the other room. MIL to me: "What is his baby's name?" Me: "Baby."

I like the Corolle Dolls. I bought one for me. LOL. Ds' "baby" was a berenguer LABABY from TRU. He loves it, it's real baby sized.

Why is having an outie unfortunate?

>Why is having an outie unfortunate?

It's not, necessarily, but if your bellybutton is spherical, that's an unfortunate outie, in my opinion.

Good news! DD isn't calling the doll "Baby" any more!

Wanna guess what she's calling it?

Why, "Puppy", of course.

Two pictures -- for the second one I am helping DD help me take pictures...

That is one flat head!

Are you holding the doll where you have to squeeze it to make it giggle in the 2nd pic?

I just saw this doll today at Walmart!
That is the creepiest laugh....and it's
never ending:P !
The doll I saw also had to be pressed at the crotch
in order to laugh as did another doll from the same co.
that had a sticker on it's crotch area that read "press
my tummy to hear me speak", lol!

They also had this doll right next to "Giggles":

Makes me wonder who the heck is in charge of designing dolls these days?!!!
Each one is scarier than the next!

I saw that doll at target the other day, it's so creepy, and the fact that it poops just freaks me out. I mean, what kid in their right mind wants to clean up after a doll that poops. EEEWWWWWW!

super_grape

IT POOPS! Who on earth thought a doll that POOPS
is a good idea??!!
I couldn't get past the really freaky face, which
is a whole lot worse in person, to read about what it did...that is
really gross!
One of my friends had a Baby Alive when I was about 8 or so
and it wasn't scary....they should have stuck with their original design.

The story and the pictures have me rolling! ;) But I agree, that is one scary doll. Hope you're able to find it a home besides yours soon!

Exactly, my sister had one of the old ones when she was younger. This thing is just scary.
