View Full Version : I'm in so much pain right now....

My back is KILLING me. Literally, it hurts so bad. I know that it is from carrying my DD around too much, because it only hurts on my right side where I carry her and if I make a real effort not to carry/lift her, it doesn't hurt as much. But DH is out of town right now (for 3 more weeks!), DD has only been walking for like 2.5 months, and I do need to carry her around pretty often. It's not like she can just walk from a parking lot into a store and she can't climb into her carseat or the car (we have an suv). Of course, it doesn't hurt when I'm actually doing it, just at night after a day of carrying her more than I should. It's a sharp pain in my lower right back when walking or sitting or lying in certain positions (which doesn't leave me many pain free options....).
My midwife gave me some exercises but they don't seem to be helping. Ouch.

And, I have horrendous heartburn right now too. No matter what I seem to eat (well, okay, I'm eating too much chocolate but I can't help it. It's Halloween and I LOVE CHOCOLATE.).

Seriously, I don't think I can make it through the next 12 weeks of this pregnancy with this back pain and heartburn. It sucks!

Bummer!! Back pain sucks!

Do you have a sling or mei tai or anything like that you can use instead?

Chiropractor!!! The best, fastest cure IME.

And try not to carry her on one side, try to carry her in the center (balance her bum on your bump if you can). It isn't as natural or convenient, but will help your back tremendously.

Also, use a stroller as much as humanly possible.

Hang in there! Pregnancy pains are no fun, I know!

I'm going to discuss a chiro at my next m/w appt. on Thursday. I've never been to one, what do they exactly do? I just keep thinking they are going to crack my neck, which creeps me out.

I do have a mei tai and sling and all that, but I'm not carrying DD around for long periods of time. It's more up and down the stairs (when I don't have/want to spend the time letting her do it), in and out of the car (I'm so close to moving her seat to the passenger or driver side, but my brain knows it's not as safe so I haven't yet), and just general "mommy pick me up I need you" type things. She is fine in the stroller and shopping cart. I'm also trying to remember to bend at my knees and pick her up using my legs more than my back. Thanks for commiserating!

I went for the last few weeks of ds's pg. It was wonderful. Not painful at all. Adjustments feel good!

I wish I could go on a regular basis but it meant enough to me to spend the $$ for his birth.

I get regular chiro adjustments due to the stressful nature of my job and relationship with DH. Good thing they are only $20/visit, one of the perks of living in Ukraine I guess. For most part they are not painful at all. And my doctor showed me some exercises, which I am doing (almost) every night to strenthen back muscles and get my joints to move. They take only 15-30 mins as the only time I have to exercise is while I am putting DS to sleep :( but they've made a huge difference. I've been doing them for about 3 months and my constant back pain is almost gone :). As soon as I slack off, it comes back, so I am motivated to continue exercising. Unfortunately, adjustments alone did not work for me.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and I hope you feel better soon.
