View Full Version : Why can't they make children's clothing in different lengths?

I can buy my jeans and pants in differnt lengths, so can DH. However, DS is destined to have pants that fit at the waist and are too short or be huge in the waist, but just right in terms of length. Why can't the children's clothing industry help us poor parents out. This is not rocket science! AARGH!!!!

I'm sorry Chris!! I can totally relate. We've had good luck with the adjustable waist pants at Old Navy and Gap now that he's close enough to 2T to wear that size.

I actually remember dealing with this as a child. I've always been pretty tall for a girl (I'm 6 ft. now), but I was also really thin growing up, so until I could fit into junior's sizes, all my pants were either way too short or way too baggy.

I was just lucky that I live in Louisiana, so shorts and skirts work 10 months out of the year!

Yeah, I've been noticing lately on DS that all his pants that fit around the middle (and actually stay there) are pretty much floods now. But there don't seem to be any that are the right length, because I'm usually folding up the cuffs on all the others and hoping they don't fall down. He's not ALL that skinny—50%, but off the charts for height and I feel your pain. He's pretty far from fitting into a 2T in pants, so I think we have awhile to go until there's any solution.

Hate to tell you this, but it gets worse. Now that my DS1 is potty-trained and doesn't have a diaper to help hold his pants up, he needs even skinnier pants. But most of the adjustable waist stuff (even sweats, even slim-cut Gymboree pants) have to be cinched pretty tight to stay up, which means he can't pull them off easily to go potty! And we need quick-off stuff since he usually waits until the last second to go.

My mom sews some extra elastic into most of his pants these days so they stay up when he's running around but come off easily when he has to pee!

don't even get me started... my older son wears a 2T shorts and a 4T pants are almost too short! but the waist is HUGE!!

that's one reason why i make clothes...

Adjustable waists. That's all that works here. I don't bother to buy pants without 'em.

Even with a kiddo who's still a bit of a chunk, the waists still seem to be too big when the length is right.

I agree, it's pretty annoying!

I agree, although our problem is the opposite. They are the right length and too snug in the waist or fit in the waist and are too long. Sweats are fine, with the elastic, but I don't want him in sweats all the time.

This is us, too. Add in the CD & it's a real problem.

I know!!!

It is SO annoying that the assumption is that all kids seem to fall in the 50% range for height and weight. My tall little guy ends up in floods sometimes just so his pants don't fall down to his ankles.

While we are at it, women's clothing sizing is not nearly as practical as men's. I'm not a tall, not a regular (5'10" with long torso). If only we could buy pants wiht a particular inseam and waist, life would be great.

My sister and I had this very discussion yesterday! My ds was wearing floods, but they didn't fall off his waist. :) Her tall daughter has the same problem. Buying elastic or adjustable waisted pants only helps so much.
