Or rather the dumb creature ran smack into my car. I was out shopping with my rescue friend from Ohio. I wanted to donate food/litter, so went to buy some. On the way back, we decided to pick up a pizza. We were 300 yards from the plaza where the pizza joint is when I saw him standing smack in the middle of my lane. He was gorgeous and huge with a large rack on his head. I calculated my chances of stopping instantly in my head and came up with "slim to none". Everything seemed like it was in slow motion. I hit the brakes and swerved into opposing laneto avoid him. There were no cars there at that moment. As I began passing by him, I was mentally willing him to stay put and my speed was down to 10 mph. I thought he heard my mental pleas, but he obviously didn't. He ran full tilt into the front passenger side of the front of my car. Again, in slow motion, I saw the moron roll over and saw all 4 hooves straight up in the air. "Oh no!!! I killed him!" Then, he got back on his feet and ran away at the same full speed. The damage to my car was done by then. I have a bit of blood and a tuft of hair to show for the incident and the front it pretty banged up. That's going to be the most expensive pizza of my life after I pay my deductible.

So sorry!! That is my worst nightmare, as I see dead deer at the side of the road every day on my way to work.
I'm really glad there were no other cars around. From what I've been told, the more dangerous accidents usually occur when the driver swerves to avoid the deer & hits another car. (I think the deer usually ends up getting hit as well, as you saw they don't pick up on mental vibes all that well).
Glad you are safe & sound, & I hope not too traumatized.

That is a huge fear of mine now that we live "out in the country" and see deer pretty often. I have been told that you should NOT swerve out of the way, though, you're more likely to get hurt yourself doing that!

Glad all is okay, but I have heard the same thing: Do not swerve. You are more likely to hit another object (Like my SIL did when she ended up rolling the car several times and crashing into a tree to avoid a deer) or to hit another car. Slow down as much as you can, but try to not swerve. I'm so sorry you hit the deer - we have them everywhere here and it's only a matter of time before I joing you in the the club of "How can evolution have escaped these huge creatures so they still run into my car?!?!?"

That stinks! We're in the middle of deer country here. I was in a car with my mom, stopped at a stop sign, and a dear ran smack into the fender of the car. We were STOPPED and it did $400 worth of damage!!

that stinks. i was in a car once with a friend and we saw a deer so we stopped and waited for it to go on its merry way. stupid thing just sat there so we tried the horn, big mistake it ran at the car and hit it and then was kinda dazed and sitting there so we thought now is our time to drive around him, nope he ran at the car again and hit the passenger side again and kinda ran with us for a minute befor we got pushed off the road and he took off. i cringe every time i see a deer while driving now. im glad that you are both ok but that stinks about your car :(

I've also heard the do not swerve thing, but as the cops confirmed, the damage would have been much much worse if I hadn't. He'd have gone through my windshield and deployed my airbags and all that jazz. So, it was good that I slowed and swerved.

I think deer should be required to carry liability insurance. :P Glad you're okay!

Wow! My jaw dropped when I saw your post! You are lucky you weren't seriously injured or killed yourself, never mind the deer! Glad you are okay, although it's a bummer about your car.

Oh Rada!! I totally understand as I've hit a moron deer myself that got up and walked away.

Hopefully your comprehensive deductible won't be too much... Hugs!

It worked out OK. My comprehensive deductible is only $250 and the damage done to the car was $2300. So, I'm just considering myself lucky because it could have been much much worse. Especially since my regular deductible is $1000.

Can you tell I work for insurance?? I figured your comp ded would be less than collision. Mine are super low since our resources are so low. ($50 for comp, it really doesn't cost all that much more!!) I am sorry the damage was so much. Those deer cause the most damage don't they?? (mine was $1800 four years ago) I hope you are back in your car quickly!
