Going to a wedding this weekend. Will be with extended family for a day or two. Probably don't need to expand but I will, lol.

Don't know if it's a cultural thing but most of the older people in my family "rate" everyone in attendance and their weight. You're either "fat" or "skinny". The lovely part is they share their ratings with you. It's one of the best parts of seeing family, can't you imagine?

I've determined by their ratings that a size 8 is acceptable("skinny") and a size 10 is not("fat"). They don't know that these are their weight parameters since everyone is either or--there's no perfect weight/size for them. You'd think these grown freakin' people would have some sense about them and not comment to people *to their faces* what they think of their bodies. You can't imagine the fun of hearing someone say out loud to you "Man, you're FAT!"

Until just last year, I used to be utterly dumbfounded to the point of speechlessness when I got their ratings. I finally wised up and said to an uncle when I heard "you're fat"(nevermind I was 3 months pp), "man, you are TOO!". The look on his face was priceless, lol!

I can't wait to use that line on another woman there. Haven't seen her since I was 3m pp. She said to me, "The last time I saw you, you were *really* fat." My thought: "Yeah, I was 36 weeks pg(w/dd), you jack ass."(not to mention, I was visiting a dying aunt for the last time. She was rating me while I'm doing that?) I can't wait to see her this weekend. I'm giving her a dose of what I gave the uncle, lol.

Gosh, I just don't even know what to say about that! How crazy . . . I hope the wedding is nice at least, aside from the ratings.

LOL. So you're speechless too?

I'm sure the wedding will be wonderful. I'm planning on getting a great family pic for our xmas cards and good ones of the kids too. I'm really looking forward to everything except the moment the bozos start up. :P

Wow, that's crazy. My family is the opposite - we're all a bit on the chunky side and EVERY time I see my grandmother, aunt, pretty much any women in my mom's generation or older I get "Wow, you're really melting away!" Or, "You look great, how much weight have you lost?!?" Never mind that the scale hasn't actually changed since about 3 months after DD was born - maybe I broke it - and that I haven't lost an ounce (except maybe right after a hair cut). Oh, and I also see these people frequently, once a week, so it's not like they just don't remember... They're all like that, all except one (very underweight) great-great-aunt, who said to my grandmother (in my hearing) "Hey, maybe I should give those pants that are way too big for me to Sarah, they might be big enough for her." At least she's honest. ;)

It's amazing what some people think is OK to say to/in front of family members. Honestly, if that were my family I'd totally go with the comebacks you came up with. I'm all for respecting my elders and all that, but if they're that disrespectful give them a dose of their own medicine!

Sarah :)

Reminds of hard of hearing great uncle John, who loudly commented about the maid of honor at a wedding, as she walked down the aisle.

"Who's that fat girl, I didn't know ___ had any fat friends"

Her DH was minding their 4mos old twins at the time...

You're kidding me! I guess your family feels really close and "at-home" with each other to be doing that sort of thing...I simply cannot imagine grown adults labeling each other "fat" and "skinny"!!!! I can't wait to hear what you say to that lady if she approaches you again about your weight.

Well, I'll flippin' be.....I got several compliments on how great I look! Esp. from aforementioned uncle!! I'm still speechless, LOL. It's hilarious because I've not changed since 3m pp with ds. I think I dress well as a matter of course. I guess being super cleaned up made all the difference. :P

I saw the insulting woman but didn't speak with her. There were table assignments and I wasn't near her. We left before any casual family functions so I'll have to wait until next time. I almost want to stay "unacceptable" so I can use my line on her. :*
