Dear Alan,

Just found the complaint letter on Dewell Events & Beverly's response. I was married 5/11/02 at the Dallas Woman's Forum in Dallas, TX (an absolutely gorgeous facility). Dewell Events was the only option at the time. The reception was a total rip-off. Here is an excerpt of the letter we sent to our credit card company refuting the charge:

[When was the last time you went to any catered function where the
guests had to chase wait staff down to "request" coffee? This is absurd. It's always set up (silver service or not) in view of the guests so that they may help themselves. Ms. Dewell claims we contracted for "coffee on request." If you look over the contract, no such verbiage can be found. Perhaps Ms. Dewell and her staff believe it's appropriate to announce: "Guests, thanks for coming to the wedding. By the way, if you want coffee, just ask an attendant and he or she will bring it to you from the kitchen." And, if that were indeed the case, why didn't they? But we deviate from our main objections. The fruit that was served was not what she described in her contract or her letter to you. (Please see guest letter.) The condiments described were not present. (Please see guest letter.) The bartenders did run out of mixers. (Please see guest letter.) We contracted for 151 guests. By our count we had approximately 130 and we know that a minimum of 17 left immediately after the actual wedding ceremony. Dewell employees packed up the left over wedding cakes for us, why not the excess food that they told several of our guests was no longer available? Attached you will find a letter from a Ms.________ that states that not only did she and her companion see trays of food going back into the catering vehicle; they grabbed some of the sandwiches off the trays in the parking lot! You will also find a letter from Ms.___________ (who also happens to be a professional caterer) and her observations. If money were the issue, as Ms. Dewell insinuates in her letter to you, we could have skipped the reception entirely. Dallas Woman's Forum did not require that we hold our reception there. We decided that we wanted a professionally catered reception. Unfortunately, that is not what we received. We were busy with our guests at the wedding . . . only afterward, when numerous people contacted us (individually) telling us what a shoddy job the caterer had done did we begin our investigation into head count and what was actually served (and it took weeks to get that information from Dewell Events). At that point we decided to contact our credit card company. We did not get what we contracted for.]

We contacted Ms. Moss and found that Ms Dewell threatened her with legal action over the letter she sent you. We ARE taking legal action. We cannot & will not endorse Dewell Events. Your readers should be made
aware. A word to the wise from the voice of experience... VIDEOTAPE. We did & it makes a world of difference when you have a videtape to verify your count AND letters from your guests. If anyone wants to contact me, please feel free to do so.
