We would like to offer our guests lemonade, ice tea and water to drink at the reception. We do not wish to have alcohol at our wedding (for cost and person reasons).

Our caterer thinks that offering only 3 drink items would be rude and suggested that I offer soda on a consumption basis.

What are people's experience with this? Is this a wise idea? How would you prevent a bill mark-up in such an event (i.e. how do I know if they come back and tell me that 100 people ordered soda?)

Thanks!

It is your wedding. I got married in Saudi Arabia (long story) and alcohol is not available. I was kind of glad I didn't have to deal with it. We had a brunch buffet and only had punch which was only sligtly sweet, coffee, tea and water and as far as I know everyone still enjoyed it. :)
