Can anyone recommend any books to buy on infant/toddler care, that cover physical and emotional health? Who are the respected authors (other than Dr Spock). I am looking for an easy-to-read book that covers all aspects: bathing/feeding baby, putting baby to sleep, overall parenting, discipline thru the ages, etc!
Thanks, Amy

Besides Spock, I've read good things about "Caring for Your Baby and Young Child: Birth to Age 5", American Academy of Pediatrics.

Also, parents I know recommend reading books by William and Martha Sears, as well as T. Berry Brazelton.

I used Your Baby and Child : From Birth to Age Five by Penelope Leach. This was practical and useful more than I can say. It was the best book around 10 years ago and it still is today.

I met a child development specialist who recommended the following..

Magic Trees of the Mind : How to Nurture Your Child's Intelligence, Creativity, and Healthy Emotions from Birth Through Adolescence
by Marian Diamond, Janet L. Hopson .

What's Going on in There? : How the Brain and Mind Develop in the First Five Years of Life
by Lise, Phd Eliot ; Paperback

I've not yet acquired them (daughter's 3 weeks old) but intend to..Love to hear what others think

We have a 3 month old and I bought a ton of books before he was born. I agree that the "Caring for Your Baby and Young Child: Birth to Age 5", American Academy of Pediatrics is the most useful one you could own. We reference it ALL the time - it is a must for any new parent.

We also really, really like 'Right From Birth' and most of 'Touchpoints'. Personally, I don't care for the Sears book at all.

Good luck!

I absolutely love the Girlfriend's Guide to Toddlers by Vicky Iovine. Great information, funny and honest, like you'd get from your best friend. I can't recommend it enough.

We love love LOVE 'The Baby Book' by Dr. William and Martha Sears. It covers the health and emotional development of babies very throughly.

I would definitley recommend the AAP "Caring for your Baby and Young Child" and T Berry Brazelton's "Touchpoints". They are both great for referencing...AAP will go into more of the medical while Touchpoints focuses on the behavorial and emotional.

I don't think you'll be able to get by with just one book as I've found it best to read several opinions and form your own...for that reason I'll also throw in my support for Viki Iovine's Girlfriends Guide to...(Pregnancy, First Years, Toddler Years). A common sense guide with a lot of wit....not as dry as others but with surprising bits of wisdom

My sister has "The Focus on the Family Complete Book of Baby and Child Care". She really likes it. It goes from pre-birth to the teen years. It has contributions from physicians, psychiatrists, pediatricians and psychologists. It is supposed to cover everything. Here's the link to it on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/084230889X/qid=999996817/sr=1-10/ref=sc_b_10/102-7378664-6079364 Also, here is a list of several books. I know a lot of people like them, some people don't, a lot of people take the stuff that they like and will work for them and leave the rest. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/102-7378664-6079364 For more books by the same authors and to find out more about the authors check out: http://www.gfi.org/java/index.jsp
