I just returned from my dr visit. The dr was measuring my belly and she said she could feel the head down low...so the baby has dropped. She won't start checking my cervix until next week...just curious...once the baby has dropped, what are the chances that my cervix will begin to dialate and when? Thanks, ECH

Everyone and every pregnancy is different. There's really no way to tell. Sorry! When my son was born in March, my water had actually broken (slow leak, up high--so nobody believed me until the doctor looked), but I was only dialated about 1cm. They waited a few hours, but it didn't get any better, so they gave me Pitocin to speed things along since I couldn't leave the hospital without a baby!

I forgot to mention that he was born 16 days early, so it was a bit of a surprise.

In any case, make sure your bags are packed (mine weren't!) and good luck! :-)

You could start dilating immediately... but it wouldn't necessarily mean that it's time to bolt for the hospital. I was one and a half centimetres dilated for two weeks before the contractions started. And even then, it was 44 hours between the onset of real, solid contractions and the actual birth.

Won't hurt to get lots of sleep, though.

My baby's head was low from 30 weeks until I had her at 38 weeks, so, unfortunately, the baby's head being low doesn't mean too much until the baby decides she's ready to come out! Good luck!

I had my baby on Dec. 19! She's beautiful! She was 9 days early. Merry Christmas to all!

Congratulations!

It's nice that you had her before Christmas and are home now (or so I assume).

Happy Holidays,
