Hi -

My sister-in-law is expecting her 3rd child in a couple of weeks and I would like to get the other 2 kids presents so they don't feel like the baby is getting all the attention. Well, I'm just stumped as to what to get my 8-year old niece. Any suggestions? She's already outgrown Barbies!

Thanks for your help!

Does she collect anything? One of my ~10-year-old cousins collects stuffed Boyd's Bears (not the figurines), and the other collects Snow Globes. Some of the Boyd's Bears can get expensive, I think, but I found cute, little stuffed ones for around $10 at my local Hallmark. (I also got a "Baby's First Christmas" one for my son.) Books are always good, too.

Oh, and I thought of another thing (here comes the "shameless plug"). There's a game called Apples-To-Apples, and there's a junior version for kids 7+. Here's the link from Amazon if you haven't heard of it:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004U3BA/qid=1012452957/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_3_1/103-9227555-5016657

Hope that worked.

Anyway, my cousin did the illustrations for the game. While I've never played the Junior version (only the original), other relatives have at family gatherings and they've had a blast. My brother has given it as a gift to several cousins and his god-daughter.

Thanks for both of your messages. She does have a couple of American Girl dolls, so I could get her something for one of them - they just get so darn expensive! But the Apples-to-Apples game sounds really neat (and educational) so I'll definitely look into that further too.

Thanks again for the help!
