I have been having some of the most vivid, albeit, EXTREMELY strange dreams the past couple of weeks. I've even stopped eating after seven just to be sure it's not heartburn or something I've eaten that could be causing these dreams. Other than the nightmares where I seem to be screaming at everyone I know (if anyone knows me, I am just not a screamer - I hate confrontation!), the 'nice' dreams all have me holding a baby girl. I'm still quite a few weeks (six, I think), before we have the determining ultrasound, but I'm finding myself almost convinced we're having a girl. I don't want to find myself disappointed if it is a boy - I don't think I will be, but six more weeks of 'girl' dreams might get me there! Did anyone have these kind of dreams where they were right - or wrong? I'm starting to drive my husband nuts trying to figure this out!

P.S. Most other 'signs' point to girl - about 60% of them.

I have had a lot of these dreams - including one where the baby was HUGE (I'm measuring 3-4 weeks ahead) and one last night where the baby was UGLY!

But, all of my dreams except one contradicted the ultrasound - until lately. So I don't know how much weight to put on the dreams - I tend to put more faith in science!

And as far as the old wives' tales (what I think you are calling "signs"), I'm about 50/50 on those.

We have about six more weeks to confirmation, also, but this confirmation will be absolute!

I can remember having dreams every which way when it came to the baby's sex, but it was a balance between boy and girl, maybe a little more girl. I really wanted a girl though. We didn't find out the sex, but I was convinved we were having a girl initially. And all tests and quizzes I took resulted in girl. (I did not do the Drano test.) I ate sweets non-stop. I was excessively ill in the beginning. Once we had the sonogram, just looking at the picture, we all pretty much decided it had better be a boy because it would be an unfortunate looking girl :) (I still secretly hoped for the opposite. But deep down I knew, just from the way I was carrying.) The baby looked just like DH, and when he "popped" out, sure enough, it was my hubby in miniature!

But I am veering off the topic...I still had dreams about girls even after I figured it was a boy. The most bizarre dream was me giving birth to sextuplets, and it was like a litter. I had an Asian baby, an African-American baby, boys and girls, a mixture of all kinds of people. It was kind of neat. So I don't know if I was right or wrong in my dreams about the sex because they were both present. I wouldn't get my heart set on one or the other before you find out because I've heard it can be rather traumatic if it's not the case, almost like a miscarriage, in a sense. Even though we didn't find out the sex, I was completely bummed the first few days following our sonogram because I knew it wasn't a girl. Good luck and congrats!

ps...am completely smitten with my baby boy now!

Hi, JMarie!

I did not have dreams about the sex of my baby, but I had strange dreams with my DD and now am having strange dreams with DS. Two nights ago, I dreamed that I was a pregnant undercover agent with the CIA and Lenny Kravitz was my CIA partner. In my dream, DH did not know about my "secret" job. Last night, I dreamed that I was friends with Anna Nicole Smith and that I lived in California - I actually live in Atlanta, GA (I watched the Anna Nicole show on E! last night while I was waiting for my indigestion to settle down!). With DD, I dreamed that I had agreed to give her to a friend of mine to adopt, because they were having trouble conceiving, but changed my mind during the labor and delivery. I told my friend in my dream that I was sorry, but legally, I could keep my child since I had signed no papers. Talk about a nightmare!!

As far as finding out the sex, I was sure DD was a boy the first 2 weeks, but after that I just had a feeling that she was a girl. The ultrasound confirmed it later. With DS, everyone kept telling me they thought it was a girl, so I started looking at "girl" things for the nursery, but it just didn't feel right. It felt right to look at blue things - the ultrasound confirmed that it was a boy. I would just try to keep an open mind during the wait for the ultrasound and maybe think about how you would decorate if it's a girl and how you would decorate if it's a boy.

Good luck and hope your dreams get better!

I agree with the "completely smitten with my baby boy now" part!

My mother was convinced I was having a girl. And I had morning sickness from almost day one until the day I delivered (was on meds since about week 12/13 and that was the only way I could eat).

I had a dream about my grandmother when I was pregnant, whose name was Anna. Since that was a name we were considering for a girl, I thought for sure I was having a girl. I remember seeing a girl at the restaurant or the park and thinking, "Anna will look like that."

But I also had dreams about having a boy, and I think I knew deep down I wouldn't have a girl. Even the ultrasound tech didn't want to commit 100% to boy--but I think that's when I knew for sure. Although there was that last little bit of hope in the delivery room for a girl.

But now that Evan's here, I wouldn't want it any other way!!!

All I have to say is if you would be very disappointed one way or the other, you might want to find out at the ultrasound if you can. At least that way you have a few months to "get use to" the idea. My mother kept saying she didn't want to know, but that was the first thing she asked when we came back from the ultrasound. If nothing else, it gave HER time to adjust. LOL!

I didn't have dreams about what sex DS was (that I remember, anyway), I just know I was so PO'd about EVERYONE telling me it was going to be a boy, when I was NOT going to find out, that I wanted it to be a girl just to prove everyone wrong! So I found out at the U/S that it was a boy, and I was only disappointed that I couldn't tell everyone they were wrong!! I LOVE having a boy, though. He is just wonderful! The dream I DO remember from that pregnancy was a nightmare about losing the baby (I won't tell you the gory details). But I probably had that dream because I lost my first one, AND it's hard for me to get PG (irregular cycles), AND being a mom is the one thing I knew I would be since I was a kid. I think your dreams most often reflect your hopes, wishes & fears about the child & pregnancy. And since those changing hormones make us a little more emotional than usual, we get more wierd dreams.

Hi! I just wanted to add my 2 cents on the dream thing! I didn't find out that I was pregnant with our first child until I was almost 6wks. along. During that time, I had a wonderful dream about my dear mother, who passed on 15yrs. ago, and my beautiful baby girl. In this dream, my mother had taught her grand-daughter a song that she used to sing to me when I was little, "You Are My Sunshine." In the dream, I remember being so touched and happy hearing my little girl singing this song! (in the dream, she was about 2yrs. old)It's a dream that I'll always treasure! Well, as it turns out, the sono confirmed that our baby is, indeed, a girl! The 2nd sono confirmed the first! WOW! On 1 hand, it blows my mind! But on the other, I'm not really that suprised. All the other repsonses seem to tell how their actual experiences went against the mom's gut feelings. So I wanted to share my experience, to give you some hope. I really believe that gut feelings and instinct are a way of your body trying to tell you something. So stay in tune with your body and listen. By the way, this isn't my first experience with my dreams trying to tell me something that was really true! I know it seems strange at first, but trust in yourself and your instincts! Remember, every child is a precious gift from God! Good luck and try to not stress! Tracy

My husband just admitted he has been feeling that we're having a girl for the past few weeks. He doesn't know why - he just thinks it's a girl. We just were at his parent's house and his father reminded us that all the males in his family for the past 3 generations have had a first-born son! No pressure there! Our ultrasound is on the 8th, so I'll be sure to let everyone know the results. My OB told me to drink the water an hour before and then about 15 minutes before the ultrasound, drink some Sprite or other non-caffienated, sugary beverage. The three other women I work with who use these doctors did the same thing and had great results. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that our little soccer player (I must have SUCH bruised internal organs already!) cooperates!

On the dream note, however, I've started to move into the nightmare phase. Waking up doesn't seem to help - I fall back asleep and they start over where they ended! I find if I'm worried about something, it makes it worse. Some of these dreams are extremely graphic and even more violent - I mean REALLY violent - so much so that I wake up shaking. It's getting to where I don't WANT to sleep. Thank goodness it isn't every night, but I can't wait for this 'phase' to be over! Thanks!

P.S. I used to sing "You Are My Sunshine" to my youngest sister (she's twelve years younger than me) all the time when she was a baby. By around age two or so, she had it memorized and would sing to anyone who would listen! It made grocery shopping interesting...

I bet they'll be able to "call the baby" and tell you if it is boy or a girl. We were actually told by our peritanologist (I am sure i just butchered that title) of the baby being a boy at 13 WEEKS!!!!! He said that the genitals of both look exactly the same at that point BUT that a girls is parallel to the body and the boys is elevated at an angle a bit. Mind you he is a specialist with a super dooper sono equipment (Not my delivering OB...I am 35, with one miscarriage last year thus this visit)...but always felt like it was a boy. this past week he called it for sure "BOY"!!!!

But the dreams...Oh my goodness last week (19weeks) I had the most vivid seemed real spooked me more than any dream ever has in my life. AFter the dream in real life I woke my hubby and said someone was in the house (mind you I own three big retrievers who were crashed on the side of the bed)...I had my husband with gun in hand going thru the house looking for this "bad guy". Then I went back to sleep and the most vivid images of about 20 people with torches in their hands behind our house off in the woods. The dream was very colorful they were dressed in green. And I thought "oh great he won't believe me with this one either" and then they blew out the torches, in my dream I called DH out to the porch and he got there in time to see 3 torches still lit but denied seeing them. I was so mad at him in my dream for not seeing this. The first one he did get up in "real life" but the second was all just a dream.

Then this past week in my dreams, baby was born, wrapped in his blanket and had no legs....

Then the dream after that I too was CIA :) :) :) or FBI or soemthing and was in the "cage" with Hannibel Cannibel (Anthony Hopkins) interviewing him and he pulled out "his thing" and pee'd on me...

OHHHH!!!! But those first two were so real feeling, to the point where I worried "am I in a coma, and I am having drug dreams"...I was shaken for awhile...more than Hannibel peeing on me...

Okay, I thought throwing people down flights of stairs was terrible, but now I just can't stop laughing! I've had dreams where my best friend - who happens to be a man, just recently started someone new, and she cannot stand me - is hunting me down to torture me, like in the seek-and-destroy type video games. He is such a sweet and gentle person with me and so not the type to attack anyone unless provoked (he did break his hand in a dance club for me once), but I was so mad at him for the next day after that dream! I'm also having those wierd am-I-asleep-or-am-I-awake type dreams where you see everything around you the way it should be, but you can't move or speak, and something scary is about to happen. I guess the worst have been with people I know, especially with my friends and husband. I keep hoping they end before the pregnancy, or the baby is going to be scared out of me!
